Need D-50 carb help

I'm rebuilding a Mikuni carb on an 87 Ram D-50 2.6 and have a couple of questions that aren't answered by the sheet that came in the kit.

1 - what's the float height, and how do I measure it?

2 - there was a mystery checkball, pin, and spring that fell out (oops). The kit doesn't show where it goes back in, or how the piece-parts go together. As far as I can tell it's the "overfill device checkball and weight".

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Oh, and by the way, if you hear of anyone that decides to use form-a-gasket to make a carb to intake gasket, smack them upside the head. That's what I'm having to deal with here. Kids. :)

Thanks in advance.

Good luck, your a braver man than me, most tech's at the dealers I worked at stopped rebuilding those things and went to just straight up replaceing them. Just never could get them things to tune right. You may try a search under mikuni-solex, it might turn up more results.

Ive done a few but not lately, I was lucky on my daughters 89 it was the heat diverter door closing on it is all. Is it possible that the extra spring and ball go in the pump shot circuit? Float adjustments are usually the gap between the top of the float and the bottom of the bowl cover.

There is a ball in the pump circuit already. This one apparently went in a hole right next to it - or at least that's where I put it.

I sent the carb off to be tried, but haven't heard if it worked or not. It sucks because I don't think the carb was the problem to begin with. The truck had been sitting for over a year without starting, and I jumped right in and fired it up before the guy bought it and it ran fine for a month or more before he started having problems.

I just hope it works because I know he doesn't have any $$ to replace it.
