Need a pic of an air filter..

I'm looking for an image for a little side project.

I'd like to have a good close-up of a straight-on shot of an Oval Air filter element.

Something along the line of the inset picture here, but a more direct shot of the straighter part of the filter's edge.

I have this filter in my basement. I even have a camera. Do you need an eye-level shot of it from the side? How tight of resolution?

That's what I was hoping for!!!

Eye level would be great.

What I want to do is apply it to the side of something about 1.5 inches high and wrap it all the way around.
I'll have to photoshop it to the right length, but that should be easy to do.

As close as you get with the top and bottom still in the picture - including at least one of the "notches" that are formed in the outer edge. Please and thank you.

If you need a place to upload the file(s), let me know. I can set something up tomorrow.

Thanks a ton!!

Are you going around all four sides of this something? Because I could get the inner screen, top and bottom detail if you want to get silly. Your call.

I am, but only the outer view matters as I am going to make the top look like an air cleaner top.
So, this will look, somewhat, like it has a cover on it and a base on the bottom (in black).

This is not as easy as it looks! The flash is too much, and without a tripod it's hard to get a steady-enough hand!

How's this? Detailed enough? At actual resolution, it's over 4" high.

925x694, 160 pixels per inch. The uncropped one is, I believe, 1280x960 but the resolution of the filter itself is no better. I didn't think to look at the resolution when I took it, though I think it may shrink down just fine.

Let me tinker with my camera a bit.

Going up several MP in resolution makes it that much harder to get a steady shot, even in Super-macro mode. Here's one at 314 pixel/in, 1540x1155.

Yeah, the first one is the clearer one so far.

If you're shooting more, can I ask you to try for a straight on shot of the straightest part of the filter?

The curves in that shot are gong to be tough to lay down on a straight, flat surface - which is what I'll be using.

Well, the reason I chose that particular section is because if you've ever seen one of these closely, the orange gasket material actually runs down onto the metal screen quite a bit during the manufacturing process. That's how they were new back in the day, too. If you see one with a perfect, clean metal outer (or inner) screen, it's been detailed. Mine has not, and that was the clearest part of the screen... but yeah, I'll get some different shots. How good are you at PhotoShop? :D

I'm a gonna learn... :P

Actually, I can hack and slash stuff as needed but only if I get good creative chomp on an idea.
Once I get that, I get a sense of what I need the photo editor to do and I dig until I figure it out.

If you're using Photoshop, I could tell you essentially how to muddle through it. If you're using something less ballsy like Irfanview, I have no idea. I've always done all my editing using the real deal.

I gotta go delete some shots off my camera to make room for more. That "memory full" extended beep makes me crazy.

So, ya never asked what I was going to do with this stuff.
I'm betting you had a good guess anyway.

I'm building another guitar pedal. SerrrrrrPrizzzzze! (<-- Sarcasm)

This one is....

wait for it......

a Filter!

I wanted to go with a Yiddish theme and called it the GeFilter, but Geddy Lee beat me to it.

So, then I thought, "Well heya Mary, Whahyuh not make tha Filtah look liyke a Filtah?"
(The voice in my head is Jimmy Stewart doing an imitation of Pa Kettle from some unknown reason.)

Graphics.jpg

I took your photos and picked through them a few times and found one that I could crop, flip end for end, and re-attach to make one continuous image that is 14.75" long.
The spots where I attached the images is almost invisible. Where the graphic physically meets is pretty damned close, but you can see the overlap.

I printed the image out on paper a couple of times and did some test runs. The colour was awful.

So, I tried a little experiment. I sent the image off to the printers to make up some window cling vinyl.
That's what you see there.

I'm going to try and trim another one a little better to see how it goes. (There was a minimum size for the order. So, I just laid out 7 images on each sheet. I had to buy two sheets. So, I can fuck this up 13 times.)

I need to find a way to make the white material disappear on the top edge. I wanted to fab up a lip to look like an air cleaner cover, but I ummm didn't... (Still might though)
And the base needs to be black I think, Yes?

I'm crazy yes, but I'm crazy with a mission!

If the paint won't stick to the white material, go steal a thimbleful of self-etch primer from restoman. That should do it. And yes, the base should be semi-gloss black, but it looks pretty damned good overall. Maybe a detail shot of the cover would allow you to have them make a decal for the top that has the oval indent in it. It wouldn't match the outside edge, of course, but it would give the effect (pun intended).

Very cool, DCF. I actually like it better than the last one, and I really liked that one.

Oh, I forgot to add that I'm going to shrink down one of the labels that you usually see on the lid and put it on the top somewhere...

Thanks!
I'm glad you like it so far.

That looks awesome Beanie-boy!!! So, when you taking your products to NAMM? ;) I'm sure there could be a market for your genius ideas!!!

(for those that don't know, NAMM is the SEMA of the music industry)

I'm building a stable of MOPAR themed pedals.
When I get a bunch of different ones done, maybe I'll start another set. I always make extra graphics.

So, I was working on this on the weekend and I've got the colour down great.
I've got a good enough image of the MOPAR "instructions" decal that will look good enough when it's reduce down to size.

Then I got looking at the checkerboard decals that said 440 Magnum SIX PACK and the like...

I'm debating on whether to add one or not, but the text would be something that reflects what the pedal is.. which is a filter and a fixed Wah.

I'm thinking "WAHLTER"

Wah.
Filter

WAHLTER.

Get it?
