My new rescue project.

I think I've mentioned before that my other passion in life besides Mopars is rescue dogs. This guy was probably dumped off at the cattle auction barn across from our block storage yard, and has been living with a feral cat colony here for several months. We could never get even close to him, just see him wandering around. I put an igloo dog house out for him to use, and also to create a spot where I might catch him. Finally caught him last thursday.

Named him Chumly after the kid on Pawn stars. He has accepted being the member of a family again amazingly well. Started his heartworm and lymes treatment yesterday. He should be ready for adoption in about two months.

He's a good-lookin' fella! Any idea on breeds? He sorta looks like an overweight beagle in the first pic; in the second I see some hint of bassett. I'm glad he's assimilating well; he was surely a part of a family at some point, the poor little guy.

His ear markings are similar to those of my Valentine, just on opposite ears. No, I haven't a clue what she is, other than ¼ German shorthaired pointer. That breed dominates her personality. She's a spaz. :D

He is a good lookin fella, and I like the name :D. A buddy of mine has a Chihuahua named the same thing

My last 5 dogs have been rescued dogs, 1 mutt, 1 American bulldog, 2 pitbulls, and 1 pitbull labrador mix

She looks much more lively than old Chumly. I would guess she rules the house. I think he is mostly Basset based on his calm demeanor. There are a lot of Amish that use the cattle auction. His looks (not being a classic anything), bum leg, (an old injury that had to heal by itself) or his heartworms (too expensive to treat) any one of those could have gotten him dumped. The Amish have a horrible reputation for their treatment of dogs.

He is a nice calm dog, hasn't made one mess in the house, loves the other dogs, given his background, he is an amazing little dog. He could easily have been a problem dog, I guess I got lucky on this one. even the vets office didn't faze him.

He looks pretty mellow. Man, those ears just scream "beagle" to me. He sounds like a great family/house dog.

As for Valentine, "lively" ain't the word. 17" at the shoulder, 55lbs of solid muscle, and that GSP disposition has made for some interesting times. She's broken everything to which she's ever been tied, including proof-coil 5/16" logging chain and a Grade 8, 3/8" bolt holding the two sections of log chain together... all while wearing a choke collar (which amazingly hasn't broken). I've pulled engines with that bolt, which she broke when she was about 7 months old. She took off down the street hauling 10lbs of chain behind her like it wasn't even there. Walking her is an adventure. She's a too-short, too-long, barrel-chested freak with legs like tree trunks and huge paws, but she's a great dog. She loves people, loves kids, and loves other animals. No one can figure out what she is, though. :D

The fact that dog was left to fend for itself breaks my heart, good on you 65furyIII for giving him another chance. :)

Valentine certainly seems to be a unique character, not unlike her human. I hope to meet her someday.

My friend Tom was here one day, and kept himself blocked the entire time with a travel mug. She speared me instead. I think the reaction brings her joy.

She literally launches at you with both front paws together, straight for the groin with deadly aim. Stretch knows this first-hand. Also, you'll want to keep your face out of range because she will head-butt you in the nose so hard you'll think it's broken. That's my fault, because when it's just the two of us, we have this little affectionate thing called the "nose bump" which is my alternative to "gimme a kiss". The nose bump very gentle with me, but she's so excitable around people she wants to give them all the nose bump she can. Ask Fishy about that one!

65furyIII... how's Chumly doing?

Those rescue dogs can be tough. I'd bet you could interrogate him for hours, and he still wouldn't tell you who's a good boy.

I'm taking him to probably the best rescue in PA this friday. That is going to be a tough trip. This guy has been one of the nicest dogs we've had. Being number five dog in our house is not fair to him, and my wifes' health is not up to handling four dogs, let alone five. He will be a quick learner with just a little indevidual attention which he can't get here with four other dogs crowding around. Love this little guy and we are going to miss him.

Yeah, it's going to be tough, but you know your family has shown him love, and he'll take that to his new home. He's a good-lookin' young man, and will find happiness elsewhere, but never forget that crazy Mopar guy that took him in and cared for him. My hat is off to you.
:bravo:
