My daughter

started her first job today.

She's scooping dippindots at a place called Zooz
I drove her out there and hung around until she got settled.

My brother runs the food service there. So, she's well looked after.

I don't know how she's going to do though. It's not a real tough job, but it's her first and she's a really shy kid.

I figure it will be good for her, though. Might pull her out of her shell a bit and build up her confidence. She's got to work with people and serve the customers. You can't stay shy for very long and keep doing that. Right?

I think it will be a slow start but she'll pick things up soon enough.
The weather is cool today, so it might be a good day to be learning.
Yesterday would have been bad. Apparently, it was insanely busy.

Not sure why I posted this. I guess I'm just a worried dad. :o

How old is she? My 17 yr old just went back to a nursing home that she quit 6 monthes ago after the supervisor got canned that kept messing with her. She got a buk fifty raise to 9.75 per hr too. Shes about as big as I am and is good at rolling the patients around.

She's 14. Tall but small.

I think once she gets into the groove of things, she'll be fine. I just worry about how long that will take and hope nothing happens to discourage her in that time.

The other thing is the trip out there. It's a good 20 minute drive on the highway. Mom or Dad is her only way to get there. Not a big deal, but we don't know her hours yet. We're pushing for just weekends until school is over.

Well with nicer weather coming up shouldnt mom and dad think about a nice 10 speed for her to get to work with?????

That'd take her about 2 hours each way.

This place is a few towns away.

A bike route would take her through the country. She'd have to climb the Niagara Escarpment on the way there.

A car is the only way, really. So, we're it for transport.

There is one guy that works there that's been a friend of my sister's family for quite some time. But I'm not too sure about letting her catch a ride with him... He was a foreign student from Mexico studying medicine. Apparently, he is actually a doctor now. He's flipping burgers at the snack shop. :hmmm:

It's scary.

The problem is that she's still a little kid at heart, but wants to start doing more grown up things.

We figured out today that she doesn't really have the hang of handling money and they didn't really teach her how to run the register - which is programmed wrong anyway...
A couple hours of playing cashier and she's got it down now. Practice will help a lot..

My daughter got her first job at wal-phart back when they DID lock you into the store after you clocked out at night and you were threatened with being fired if you didn't like it.

Happened twice till I was at the door showing my CC permit to the security guard and making sure I was leaving with my daughter or a chunk of his ass.
Make me drive 25 miles at ten thirty at night because my daughters on her cell phone telling me they wont let her leave the store until she helps finishing stocking loads your ass right into my breach attitude wise:doubt:

Needless to say she was fired the next day but they always gave her good reviews to other potential places she applied too.

I know how ya feel DCF, mine was kinda shy back then to. Now she works for Kaiser medical here at age 23 and is climbing the nurse's ladder with them working 4/ 10's with saturdays as pure over time.
You always want to guard them no matter what age................

Should have filled a wrongful termination lawsuit (in my opinion), but I despise the “great Wal of china Mart”

As soon as he saw the permit he stopped threatening to call the cops and called her to the front of store.
She to this day will never buy anything there no matter the price.:naughty:
