Modern suspension for A body...

Just curious as to how you guys might do this one. With my 67 Barracuda (not the red one I've been driving) I wanna go 4 wheel disc brakes with IRS and either a 5 or 6 speed stick. Toying with the idea of a twin turbo 360 mildly built. Keep in mind this is on a BUDGET! What modern parts would you guys go with and from what cars to pull this one off? I want something that handles in corners and will still whoop some ass in the straights! [smilie=i:

Going twin turbo because I wanna do something different. Superchargers are fun but how often do you really see a turbo Muscle car? ;)

Personally - I'd keep the live axle if you want to do this on a budget. Best bet for handling upgrades from a mix of junkyard and aftermarket parts would be the numerous "Green Brick" articles that Ehrenberg wrote for Mopar Action magazine. The green brick is a '69 valiant with a crate 360 that spanked high-dollar vettes/porches etc, on road courses and the quarter during the "one lap of america events."

Definately worth the read, even if only for ideas...

A lot these days - it's become quite popular actually.

Anybody here remember "feets" from the Scatpack forum? A man 10 years ahead of his time with them hairdryers on his belvedere...(Satellite?)

If you want to check out the knuckledraggers at bangshift.com, there's quite a few fooling around with efi & turbos....mostly Chevvy stuff, but there nonetheless.

yeah i spent a goooood long time chewing on feets ear gathering plenty of info

i always wondered how the green brick "felt" while it was doing that kind of stuff...but certainly the same car would be eaten alive by supra's skylines wrx and evo's at the same HP/TQ marks

Couldn't tell you....I have zero interest in Jap tin myself. But the car was holding it's own against some pretty high - end cars with high dollar modifications. Winning the event? Nope - but still doing a pretty fair job of embarassing plenty of expensive cars. All on a pretty low budget.

i bring up the jap tin as you put it cause in there own right..that list of cars is in a sense..budget super cars that can carve corners out from under the high end exotics

Maybe.

But I just don't see what bearing that has on upgrading an old Mopar A body.

I wasn't holding the brick out as being the be-all/end-all when it comes to corner carving performance, I was just suggesting it as good reference material for a similar kind of project. I never said it was better than Jap cars....matter of fact I never said it was better than any cars. I was just stating that performance upgrades it received allowed it to hold it's own against a bunch of higher-end cars at a series of prestigious automotive events.

If you want to keep taking the postive comments people make, and turning them into something negative, well I guess that's up to you...but eventually many of us will cease to comment at all.

I dunno....just sayin'

i didnt turn anything negitive i was tossing in a lil food for thought nothing more nothing less...the green brick makes a great bench mark and ive got the rags it was in around here somewhere as i was quiet impressed ..the question is can we push it further in some way to bring it "up to date" so to speak

as for bearing...anythings possible when you are willing to cut ..and if your going to cut for an irs..theres alot of IRS units to choose from...why not update out the front end too?

Seconding Nodda comments on the E-Booger's Green Brick. Stone age stuff screwed together with a few but not insane upgrades and he was out spanking Vipers and Ferraris. I think the suspension parts were covered off in two or three Mopar Action issues.

Ok, for the sake of this thread and what I wanna know... forget the Green Brick even exists!!! I'm not going that route! The Green Brick, while an impressive machine, never WON! Plus like I said, IRS not live axle.

mmmm - Well - the brick was built by a guy who's a member of the society of automotive engineers. If you really think inventing something in the back yard is going to yield better results than his efforts, have at 'er. I'll be intersted in seeing the finished product.

Tho if you want to start throwin' ricer parts into a vintage Mopar I have little interest in the conversation. And quite frankly, "IRS" and "Low Buck" are mutually exclusive terms - unless it's gonna be a cobbled together, dangerous POS, which I also have no interest in participating in.

But: to each his own. Best of luck - sorry for misdirecting your conversation.

You can't think of one single domestic way or after market way to do this? I'm sure there is someone doing/making this possible! With all the automotive tech being thrown at vintage cars these days, there has to be SOMEthing out there!

Ok start over....
Budget not a factor.... How would you do this? Besides Viper stuff.... been done to death and then some. Just looking for ideas here. Nothing more!

lets see domestic list
t-bird(super coupe etc)
certain years of 90s and newwer mudstains
vette(yuck)

if you want i can scrounge up my mopar action collection with the green brick in it. I have read and re-read the suspension setup. It should have won, but engine problems took it out.
