Might crowd my dads garage a bit more

Behind my Polysphere making engine noises and
I've spotted a rebuildable 360 Magnum short-block for $75. I'm waiting on the answer on how much the shipping would cost. But if its the same price as it was for the heads i got from california for my dakota, that engines as good as mine [smilie=e:

I've been thinking more and more about a larger displacement engine in the Dakota. My only basic concern is weight savings. Magnums are already (as quoted by Chrylser, not me) are lighter than the old style short blocks. Plus, Edelbrock came out with a set of aluminum Magnum heads (i also have experience with Magnum heads from my Dakota). Or i can always go with the iron R/T heads as well.

But what i'd like to do is get the weight closest to the weight of my v6 right now. Dry weight on that this is 403lbs. And (quoted by chrylser) the 5.2 and 5.9 Mag's are 130lbs heavier than the v6. Any takers? Any sugestions on significant weight savings on the engine that won't get too pricey?

to hell with the extra 130 lbs..a passenger will offset you by more than that....but if its a problem move your gastank to a fuel cel BEHIND the wheels as well as battery...then remove ALL non needed equipment from the nose..im shure you can more than offset the 130lbs if not posibly shed more than that off the nose itself..innerfenderwells and such arnt realy needed unless your going mudding [smilie=e:

yeah, i was thinking of buying a fiberglass hood, and if they still made them, the first and second gen fiberglass front fenders...if i can find some.

But yeah, both the battery and the gas tank will move to the rear. The gas tank on that now is on the drivers side ahead of the rear axle, when i'm done, it'll occupy the spare tire area. Not to many other heavy things in that front there, engine compartment wise, just a lot of needed wireing. Its an ac delete truck, plus, i'm thinking of picking up a Sweet Mfg. power steering pump for it, providing the pulley would fit. The grill gaurd will be taken off, but the metal bumper will still remain, since i plan on driving it on the street as well. The interior is going to get cleaned out for some racing seats and belts, plus a four point cage will go in as well.

Just my other concern would be the newer transmission, how much is that going to put on.

But right now, its all just on paper work and in my mind. Figure i'd try to get as many tips and tricks and information from a very good source before i start hacking and moving things around. [smilie=a:

i had to do it, it was to tempting. A 360 Magnum short block for $50. And all the power producing parts for cheap (as mopar parts can get). Its gonna go in the Dakota.

I still might do something cool with the v6, but its gonna go in a lighter vehicle where its power can be used properly.

Now, i need to write down some prices of some light weight parts.

[smilie=a: here's to my credit card [smilie=a:

thats all the major spending i'm gonna do untill i get hooked up at a job down by where i live.

No job and buying a project motor! [smilie=e: What am I doing wrong? [smilie=b:

JK

Way to go man I'm working on picking up a 360 Magnum for my truck and a 273 crank (forged) for that block. [smilie=e:

That's a sweet deal.
