mig welder?

I am looking for a nice mig welder that works off 110 volts and does a good all around job for doing body/powertrain welding. Anyone have suggestions?

Lincoln weld pack 100 with the gas kit. I use co2 it allows you to weld thicker steel with a lighter welder and costs about 8 bucks to fill the bottle. You don’t want to use co2 for body work. Use 75/25 or flux core wire for that. If you use flux core run a small fan nearby your work to keep the smoke down so you can see your work and keep the fumes out of your face

I've got a Lincoln 100 amp and as stated its a good little machine.

But, if you want a machine capable of welding something a little heavier, step up to a Miller 135 or 175. It'll weld up to .25 inch effortlessly all day, whereas with the Lincoln 100, you'll be pushing it.
Lincoln likely makes a machine in the same amp ranges as the Miller, so check them out.

My personal preference is the Miller. The 18 year old machine I own has been in bodyshop use for all that time and has never let me down. Its getting a little slow as far as wire speed (too slow now for proper aluminum welding), but it keeps on going. I don't think its ever kicked out the overload.

You can use co2 for bodywork, but you'll be doing a good bit of grinding. As Stretch said, 75/25 is your best bet. I've never liked flux core for light gauge bodywork. Sooo messy compared to gas shielding.

Here is what I use.

Flux core is messy but if you don’t have the gas kit with your welder you can use the flux core. The fan helps with the smoke and fumes but not the splatter.

Thanks for the replies guys! Reading the posts I figure that a 100 amp unit would fit the bill just right for me. If it is not too much more I might try to step up to a bigger amp welder. I have heard from a welder that miller and lincoln are close but he prefers miller, its just smoother he says. I will check into it, thanks again guys! :)

ive got the craftsman version of the lincoln its a step up from the 100 being its got a full variable speed and temp and not just "switched" locations but full range of motion knobs....same gas setup, gun and everything as a 100 just a lil more variability
