Just some Jeep questions.

A friend of mine said, after realizing my idea, that I really should look into Jeeps.

I found some Grand Cherokees on line, around 96-98, and I have some questions as to trim levels.

Orvis...what does that mean??

TSi...can't figure this one out

What were these trim levels?

P.S. even if teh Carfax looks clean, it's still a bad idea if the car's been in even one accident, right?

Orvis was one of those "lifestyle" option packages-like an L.L. Bean Subaru Outback, Warner Brothers Chevrolet Venture... The only ones I've seen came in green with tan leather guts.
TSi was like an SXT in Dodge; think sporty pretentious.
I wanna 5.9 but can't afford the gas.

The grand Cherokees were great, IMO. I modded one pretty well and kicked many a YJ ass. The AC units were prone to death, and the earlier (93-5) Viscous coupled units bit if you were using em hard.
BTW, an Orvis is alot like Uranus.
In Canada, trim lines were different, but basically there was a GC Laredo, then a Limited. In 98 there was the exaulted GCLimited 5.9. The fastest SUV produced at that point. They were fun to hop up. :)
I really liked the older Grands. Most came with a light 30 Dana and a 35C rear Dana, but if you treated them well they were fine. I had ARB air lockers and it was scooberific. :nanna:

Dude if ya want a Cherokee I say go for it. I bought mine and other than having to have the tranny replaced I love mine to death!! Has over 250,000 miles on it and still runs like a beast:) I haven't had the chance to study up on Jeep GC's yet but I'm sure you'll be more than happy with one;)

Ok.

I found a Cherokee, 6cyl, Sport, red, abs, air, loaded to the gills.

68k on clock.they want 6,000 for it. Good deal?

The Grand Cherokee: 1998, V8 Laredo. around 70K on the clock. Askin about 5800.

Dakota, 1998. Good shape, V6 auto Sport club cab. Loud blue exterior on black. 50K MILES, only wants 4995.

Last: for 6995, 1998 Dodge Durango 4x4 V8. 71K.

Not sure which to really decide on. ps this is a theoretical idea, to see which could be the best basic idea of what to look.

The Cherokee offers a rougher ride, more spartan interior and the same gas mileage as the straight six. uh uh.
Go Grand, but find a limited.

Ok.

My music teacher was going to get a Liberty, but even though she loved the 6-speed v6, she couldn't afford it at 27K.

So, she had to buy a third RAV4. She said that she'll get a Jeep the next time she needs a car; I told her to get a Wrangler, as they're cheaper and probably more practical (she doesn't need two more doors or a nice interior, just 4WD, a manual, a six, and a hard top)

Limited and Orvis are similar, Tsi is some chit you crazy 'Mericans thought up.
Limited over Laredo is simple. Toys and leather! :nanna:

What year? Seems like a lot even if it's one of the last years produced. Anything from '96/'97 through till the end is the same. Same goes with the '86-'95 Cherokees minus the head changes on the 4.0.

That's not a bad price.

Me likes the Laredo very much on that GC. It's got an eight too, so it's pretty much a good thing. I should hope for one like it in the future.

The Cherokee's a 1998 Sport. Cheapest I found. The rest run the gamut from 8K to 11995 :(

Those guys at Trend Motors VW/Chrysler have a '01 Cherokee with around 50K, 11995. I think that they may be clinincally insane.

Look where they are located, it's probably got a Maaco paint job too. They are V-dub guys.... They probably know less about mopar that the Konners (of which Ken Konner from Malcolm Konner Dodge23 told me to my face " we're chevy guys, we don't know Mopar.")

Check E-bay. $6k for a '98 is a lot. There's a '01 with a $5200 BIN in Howell, NJ. It's got 124,000 miles on it but the 4.0 is good for a lot of miles. Another higher mileage one (156k) is $3900 with no bids or reserve. It's a 2000 in Manlius, NY. Shop around. You'll find cheaper.

K. My parents don't think that Jeeps are "reliable" (remember the early grand cherokee, a friend of theirs had one when they were new and it left a nasty aftertaste)...

I told 'em that they should drop the mileage thing on the Cherokee because it's such a proven truck...adding that a friend has a I6 '91 Wrangler with 106K that runs like new should help.

But they don't listen...and the dealers around here are kinda stupid.

The nice deal I found was a '98 V6 Dakota Club Cab (automatic) in blue for only 4995.

Jeep not reliable? What are they smokin? I've got 165k on my 88 Waggy. It had one rear spring torn out and the track bar broken and still drove 20miles to work at 60mph. Xj's are about the most reliable vehicle out there. They made 150k a year for almost 20years.Thay are well know for going over 200k miles without major problems.I'd have no problem taking mine anywhere. Yes they have some problems but no more then anything else. Here it is with a front clip straped to the roof. Drove from Merryland to my house like this. And still got 20mpg

Mine has well over 250,000 miles on a 93 4.0 I6. Needs a new gasket (got an oil leak) but other than that it still jumps when I put it to the floor. Only let me down once and that was my tranny. Jeeps not reliable....... :dgt:
