Welcome MaxWedge.....just watch where you step. It's gets deep in these here parts.[smilie=f:

Nice to be here.

Well I'd like to start with something that should spark debate. Topic: Clones and Re-bodied Cars. I'll discribe my car. It started out as very non original 1973 340'cuda. It was 'hot-rodded' and during the course of body work was found to have been hit hard, real hard. It did come with a nice '71 340, forged crank, J-heads. The clutch disintergrated shortly after my aquiring the car. During it's replacement the four speed was found be non #'s matching. The trunk floor was gone. And any sign of original paint was lost. Many colours, too many colors. So wanting a '70 'cuda I located a tail light panel from a totally screwed donor. I found '70 fenders('71barracuda fender?) However these had the typical rust on the lower extensions, we used the lower ext. from my '73 fenders. I used the rear corner markers from a junkyard '70 Fury(harvest these whenever found). I know this causes controvercy, however I think there is a place for such made vehicles. It's hard for an average guy to have one of these cars today. And it is almost unspeakable to drive an original #'s matching car the way they were intended. I'd like to hear other opinions on this matter.

Sounds like you made the car your own and to me that's what really matters. I'm not that big into #'s matching but as long as it's a solid ass kicker it's good by me. I've seen a few conversions done like that (chaningin one year of a car to a diff year) End result you get what you wanted:giggedy:

Now Mannye on the other hand has to have #'s matching underwear and slacks:D [smilie=f:

So, you fixed up your 73 with parts from other model years, but the core of the car is still your 73 and the VIN says as much, right?

Absolutely NOTHING wrong with that at all.

The VIN is all '73. And I suppose this is where the flack can kick in as it is a '73 BS23 code car. So some freak like, couldn't you have done that with a BH. The '73 'cuda was just a good base for this.

As long as you don't try and sell it as something it isn't, GO FOR IT! If it makes you happy, then all is groovy. :)

Bah!! Tell 'em to get stuffed.

I understand what the hubbub is now. It's not so much what you ended up with, it's what you supposedly molested to get there.

Sure there's an argument for messing up a rare original car, but heck, the car wasn't that complete as an original anyway, right? You found stuff that didn't match and damage that needed attention.

Are you supposed to store it away in your climate controlled warehouse - EVERYONE has one, right? - and wait until you can track down all the right parts to put it back, or do you get the sucker on the road where you can enjoy it?

I say you did the right thing.

You could have ended up being that guy that everyone hates: "For sale? No. I'm gonna restore it someday."

At least you did something with it and the car is saved and being enjoyed.

You havent seen my RTA post yet then in the members progress section yet then I take it? http://www.moparnuts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3636 I'm turning my 72 plain jane Chally into a 1970 FrankenMopar. :D

These guys here are a pretty open minded bunch here to not be flaming my ears off for what I'm turning that car into.:p

If you've already been exposed to Moparts, just imagine the exact opposide attitude wise, and you have Moparnuts.:giggedy:  (and you can say "poop" without getting banned here too! )

All the right stuff is in place. There was no real re-body done to it.

The car was just modified with body panels from other years.
It changes the look, but it doesn't change what the car is: a 73 BS23.

Think of it this way: it's like putting a Ferrari body kit on a Pontiac Fiero.

Hey wait a min... How come I'm still here?:hmmm:

One of my favorite sayings...the only numbers that matter are the ones on the timeslip.

Course my Duster timeslip only shows 13 seconds but hey, I'm working on that. :D

It's your car, do what you like, as long as it is legal, lol...

The response has been positive. My purpose here was to get some dialogue on the subject as I said some are touchy about this kind of thing. It also gives most here a heads up that when I refer to my '70cuda that this is the car. The '72 to '70 Challenger is also interesting.
