Tommy Johnson Jr. kept his hopes alive for the 2015 Mello Yello NHRA Funny Car World Championship with a runner-up finish in the Toyota NHRA Nationals at the Strip in Las Vegas.
Johnson was first out of the gate but was up in smoke by the 100-foot mark in his final-round matchup with Robert Hight.
Points leader Del Worsham and runner-up Jack Beckman were both eliminated in the quarterfinals meaning there is still a 38-point gap between the two.
Worsham, Beckman and Johnson are all in contention for the championship which will be decided in two weeks at the NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, California. (...) →
