Thinking about pulling the trim pieces but not sure yet. Really leaning towards taking them off but what do you guys think??

well it depends on the trim clips and how there held on and "if" its been repainted ....."if" its been repainted odds are they were lazy and didnt pull the trim wich may look like crap....now theres the clips..they will pup right off or unbolt leaveing you with eaither ALOT of small holes or alot of little rivets sticking out

id proly remove the trim...but at the same time ive not seen any with it

All original paint. Didn't think of the rivets or holes it would leave:doh:That should be an easy fix though. JB Weld? :hmmm: Bondo?:hmmm:

yeah, once you get around to the front bumper then what? under the plastic is just a hunk of boxed in steel.

I answered "pull the trim" before seeing the pics.

BTW nice avitar!

apples and oranges here, but the Royale SE trim pieces on my Ramcharger were just rust magnets.

Yeah OC and I were just talking and she mentioned that the molded flares in the fender would come from and go nowhere...:hmmm: hmm
Still curious though plus might not be a bad idea to pull them, check for rust, fix the rust if needed and put the trim back on.

You'd only be able to pull the side panels. The bumpers would have to stay.

I'll bet the fender flares go down to the bottom of the body behind the front wheel opening and in front of the rear wheel opening. It looks like the trim is cut around the flares in those spots.

I'd probably leave the rocker trim on.

It might look okay, but then there's the holes or rivets to deal with.
Unless you're planning on painting anytime soon, I'd leave all the trim on...

I vote either way - but with the caveat that the work may not be worth the effort.

If you're going to take it off to check for rust, that'd be a good time to snap some pics and take a real good look at the different combos.

It would be interesting for sure. I'm not sure that I've seen one with those pieces removed. You might even get lucky and find they're held on with adhesive. If not, properly filling the holes would require welding them. You could get away with bondo but it's not really the right way to do it. If you get that FSM, it might tell you how to take them off.

They look weird without em. Besides, I found they are really great for rubbing rocks and stumps with. :)

Well yes DCF of course the bumpers would stay....remember when I lost my rear bumper to that tree how funny that looked?:doubt:

If I do pull em and decide to leave them off the rockers would stay. So far I am being swayed against pulling it though...might be good to cure any rust problems though if any. :hmmm: Being undecided really sucks! :D

would totaly be worth carefull pulling of one of them off if nothing else to see how there held on and to clean up behind them..if they come off easy enuf but are held on in ways you cant deal with currently then remove all of them ..clean and put em back

The wiener on the trim.

I've seen them without the lower cladding, but only on models that came with body-colored bumpers. Not every Jeep was made like Rubbermaid... :D But with the grained-plastic bumpers, I think it'd look goofy without the matching cladding... sorta like shaving your whole body but leaving the 5 0'clock shadow and a hairy ass.

...but you told me it looked SAXXY. :(

Pulled the trim pieces off to see how it would look...they pull off rather easily actually...took some pics and popped em right back on...the back door panel mounts were kinda iffy so I just left it on for the pics....so what ya guys think?? Personally I think once I get it cleaned up a bit it'll look pretty good...I'd keep the rocker panels of course!

I quickly cleaned that black stuff off and cropped out what still had the trim on it. Not bad, not great. I would get a bit of attention on that rust in the front corner though before it gets worse.

I'd pull it off, personally I prefer sheet metal rather than the plastic.

And yes, get that rust fixed before you have holes. Even if you only primer the bottom half for now it will look better than rust.
