"Before that rescue, the late original creator was supposedly an aerospace engineer in southern California who was familiar with king of the fiberglass funny car George Barris."
Yup, that has Barris influence written all over it! There was a show on TV a while back called Car Warriors or something like that, George was a judge on the show. One particular week they were modifying a late 70's/ early 80's Vette. One team built theirs to show their influence of Barris. George said something along the lines of, "Do me a favor and don't do that again." He thought the car was hideous! I'm sure he'd say the same about this one.
George Barris became The King of Excess.
When he and his brother Sam started out they (Sam) built some truly beautiful cars. Sam died, George had no building talent, and what followed is similar to what we see here.
He is, or was, a master promoter, and had some great ideas, but most builds went too far, in my opinion.
Hideous just about covers it...
I'll agree a lot of Georges care are funky as hell but, I certainly dig a lot of his ideas and directions. Yeah, he had a tendency to go a bit over the top but, I can see a lot of his cars built a bit more subtle or thought out, looking really cool.
Yes he was. I think that had to be one of his more subtle creations compared to some others I've seen. I watched that show religiously when I was a kid, but not to see Batman and Robin, I watched it to see that car!
He also did the custom Lincoln for the movie "The Car" that had James Brolin in it.
He also had a hand (so to speak) in the General Lee, K.I.T.T. and I think even Ecto-1 if I'm not mistaken. The man has done subtle but, only when it came to "Hollywood" cars.
