It's about to live again

After another round of transmission or clutch problems (not sure which yet), the dually was struck down for months. My not-so-new job had me on the road most of the time for 5 months, keeping me from having the time/inclination to work on the dually. Well, now it's almost together. I pulled the trans and put in the throwout bearing this time (some of you may remember my post of a few days ago where I realized the throwout bearing and linkage were safely on the ground after bolting the trans to the engine). The crossmember is in and the new upgraded clutch hydraulics are installed. The pedal pressure seems to be about the same as it was with the 3600 lb pressure plate, but it's now a 3850 lb plate. I fired it up and ran it through the gears without a driveshaft or exhaust system-it seems ok. There's nothing like a 12v for throttle response. A quick blip of the throttle results in a rev so fast that it rivals a well-tuned short stroke smallblock. Just for reference, the clutch and flywheel combo I have on it weigh 105 lbs. I can only imagine what it would be like with a lighter single disk clutch or a converter. I'll sure be glad to get out of the '06 and start driving the dually again-better mileage in town and almost twice the power.

I test drove it a few minutes ago-it's the transmission, just as I originally thought. I had hoped it was the clutch since it would now be fixed, but it still grinds like hell going into 3rd gear. Back to the trans shop it goes, to be pulled out AGAIN, on their dime this time.
