It was good while it lasted...

restoman

The paint fumes have cleared so I'm
My # 1 body repair guy is leaving us for another job - a collision shop instead of resto work. :(:(

Damn!
He is an excellent bodyman, and he'll be sorely missed.

Any skilled bodymen out there looking for good-paying work?

Basically it comes down to a little better money and benefits. He'll also be less on the tools and more in the office.
Benefit package is the key - I'd seriously consider leaving here if I was in his shoes too. The money I can compete with, the benefits are out of reach for a small shop like mine.

I'm bummed like you wouldn't believe. :(

Benefits are definately a tougher area to compete in, a very small workforce can't get much better rates on things like health Ins than an individual can.
Disability Ins is about impossible to get except in a group. We just instituted a short/long term disability plan here where I work. Covered 43 people short term, and 17 People long term. The premium for each policy is less per month than I got quoted for an individual plan on myself.

Question, are there any "associations" you could join that may offer group
Benefit plans?

The one thing that is unsolvable is time off, ie: one person on vacation in a five person company is 20% of the work force. Tough tough tough.

Anyway, sorry to hear it, good luck with it.

:( Damn that sucks, I know what it's like trying to find a good mech, I couldn't imagine trying to find a bodyman

Mu two oldest are past the age of being covered by our benefits packages from our respective works. So eye exams and glasses are out of their own pockets. Dentist bills also. Number 2 just had a teeth cleaning and two small holes filled and it set him back $486. So benefits cam make a world of difference. Glasses and teeth and those guys are out two weeks salaries - minimum.
