I'm open to suggestions...

68R/T

I got drunk and swallowed my teeth, now
I'm helping a friend work on his street rod that has a 331 hemi and we are trying to convert to elec ignition. A later Mopar dist fits the block perfectly but none of ma's later V8's use a long enough shaft. I've compared it to dist shafts from B's, RB's and small blocks, the sb, being the longest stills falls 1/4" short. (unlike Jester, who's 4" short)
I tried to install the Hemi shaft in a later housing but this won't work because the Hemi housing is shorter, allowing the shaft to extent deeper into the block.
What I need to do is extent the shaft another 1/4"

I've thought of using a sb dist and cutting the shaft and extending it by putting a sleeve over the shaft and pinning it to both shaft sections.

I've also played with the idea of cutting the end of the shaft off and cutting another shaft 1/4" longer and welding it onto the first shaft while trying to keep it 100% true.

The only other alternative is to buy a Mallory/MSD breakerless for $300 plus the MSD box for $??

Any fresh ideas?

Have the base of the distributor housing removing, take out the 1/4", and reattach the base? [smilie=e:

pinning it may work,if you find a tight enough sleeve,I think welding may warp the shaft,.....what about just upgrading with a pertronix ?

I think flamin head is on to something there, as long as it doesnt get to thin by doing that. [smilie=e:

[smilie=e: A big hand for that DD2 guy for pointing me towards Hotheads, they have two options available. An adapter for $20 or a different intermediate shaft for $30. [smilie=e: Sounds like the new shaft is the smart move.

IGNITION: New Mallory complete electronic system. Unilite distributor specially made for the early Hemi, Hyfire IVa control module, and Promaster coil.
