"I'm afraid the strain...

...was more than he could bear."

I was back in Kingsford for the weekend, with the revised Boozeblasters ready to go... and they rocked with great enthusiasm. Man, those babies can take a beating. The cabinets need some serious reinforcing; they were never designed to handle what those drivers can deliver. I would estimate that the back panels are deflecting at least ¼" at a little over half volume.

Anyhow, once I'd gotten the equalizer worked out and was able to fully crank the speakers to max-Boozefighter-irritation volume (which is to say, all the way to the end of the volume knob), my old Onkyo receiver just couldn't take the punishment, and the transformer blew after about 20 minutes. :( I was hoping it was just a fuse or the power switch but both tested OK and nothing's coming from the transformer's output.

It was fun while it lasted... for those precious few minutes, I couldn't even hear myself yell.

So... is anyone looking to sell an old amp or receiver they're not using? I'm looking for something--anything--that's got a clean 100W per channel or more. I don't care about Pro-Logic or other fancy stuff; I just need a two-channel stereo amp or receiver so I can have very-loud music with which to annoy those morons.

I've been beating the hell out of that poor thing for 15 years... I can't blame it for finally dying. :D It was in my garage for 3 years, and taking it apart revealed an interesting collection of overspray, dead bugs, and various other detritus.

May you rest in peace, old friend. :D

My shop stereo is just an old boom box hooked to a pair of pioneer cs 511s- cd player still functions and its dusty as hell too. My onkyo still works- whats it worth?:hmmm:

Any new/used shops or pawn shops in your area? Usually a good place to look for used equipment. I'll check around for ya, we have three new/used shops here.

Got my sound system working in the basement rec-room today...the house was thumping quite nicely this afternoon. :nanna:

Once that was done the garage got an old Fisher component system with some tattered Technics thumpers, no neighbors I want to piss off...yet :shifty: , but it's nice to have decent tunes in the shop.:)
