I like it too, but I also wondered about the rear axle. Other musings:
- > Seems weird to run 3½" exhaust up to, and from, 2¼" I/O mufflers. After all, he says "stock HEMI mufflers" and those have small inlets and outlets (Hemi and 440 2½" H-pipes neck down ¼" before the mufflers).
> Still got the overdrive tranny? Not that it matters strength-wise, but the wide ratio spread and steep first might be a bit much, particularly with a serious gear ratio.
> Worth it or not, for $30K I expect a better roof/quarter seam on the passenger side, and an unripped front seat.
Worth it? I think so... nothing like a fly-in, drive-home rig--especially with Hemi power. Gotta give 'em something for a done car with a near $15K motor in it. I
do think you could duplicate the car for less, but Feather Dusters are getting harder to find since so many of them were stripped of the lightweight stuff... of course, you could go with even-lighter fiberglass parts if you're hell-bent on the weight thing.
Personally? If I did have the coin, I'd buy my friend's E5 '71 Twister for $2500 (with sharktooth grille, dual-scoop hood, 8¾", console, etc.), finish the minimal body/interior work, and make a prettier version of same. Then I'd get me a Barton motor for around the same price as the old crate motors but with about 100 more HP, and pocket about five grand.
Alas, I don't even have enough for the Twister.
