i wonder how well the molassas bath would work LOL...i know the flywheel looks broke off but i dug around it..its complete..and yes the crack is completely in it soo and rods

Wow that's really cool...almost looks like the waves flattened out part of the block. No idea on the make, more then likely a Chevy or Ford inline 6?

stupid curiousity doc...sure its scrap..actualy its sooo smooth its a work of art.......if i thought i could do the mile walk carrying it back i would have..its just that cool looking..but what story could it tell....im partial to beliving it was a boat engine since to get where it was would have been next to impossible short of bringing in a barge and offloading it intentionaly

That was my thought too...just a very cool art piece for the garage. Bring a dolly, or hand cart next time and wheel it out!!

Yeah it would make a good story.

Are those head bolts broken off?, like it blew up, or taken off, like a junk engine was dumped. Same with the tin, are the oil pan bolts still there?

got an aerial shot of the area? car driven off a cliff ??

does make for cool pics whatever it's origin.

It kinda looks like old ford 6 cyl. The gear driven timing that is offset to the side of the block just looks ford 6 to me. My guess is old boat wreck.

yeah i was thinking old boat too but then i got wondering what inlines were used in boats....your right about that timing gear my old 58 ford 6 was the first thing that came to mind when i saw this thingits about 2 miles from the neerest car acess down a boulder fielded beach

Water is a powerfull thing! It created the Grand canyon. Ocean currents have been known to move ship wrecks and airplan wreckage. I don't see any reason why it couldn't plant that block there from just about any where.

good point...lol was funny as i was looking it over there was a lil brass oil pressure fitting on the rear passeneger side of the block...only peice of reality in the whole thing

Well, if it was from a lost boat of some kind, I would think the cylinder head would still be there. I'm sure by the time it made landfall the head was in no better shape than the rest of it, so it's doubtful someone would have removed it--or even could have, looking at it. Maybe it was being transported for scrap or something, or perhaps someone did an emergency short-block change at sea, and kicked it overboard?

Marine engines are a different breed in a lot of cases... it could be a Continental, a Ford Industrial, a Mercruiser (they built inboard inline sixes for about 10-12 years) or Lord knows what else. It might even be a diesel; without the head who knows?

Flintstone 500 inline 6!!! although not sure what it ran on seeing fossil fuels were not yet fossils??......
