I think my Duster is trying to kill itself (or me)...

I have serious issues, so I'm
Three, count em THREE fuel leaks in the past week. A fuel line in the back broke for no particular reason that I could see, and spilled about a gallon of gas all over the driveway (like spilling gold nowadays).

Then I was driving it and smelled gas, quickly pulled over and found a pin-hole in a front fuel line, worse thing was it was vaporizing gas all over the hot headers! Cripes. Rerouted those lines too so if it happens again they will be farther away from the headers. And the lines are new, too.

Then yesterday, drove it around the block and smelled gas AGAIN. Checked and the new fuel pump was leaking. Tightened it up (the bolts were somewhat loose) and hope it is good to go and the pump isn't bad.

So, what do you think? Is my car trying to kill me? Time to invest in a fire extinguisher, too, I suppose. I don't even have one yet. With this car looks like I really need one.

Lemme tell yah about fire extinguishers......:D I am a pro by now. ;)

sounds like teething pains. Soon you will have em all taken care of! Lucky nothing really bad happened.

Okay XL, I'm almost afraid to ask but how many times have you had to use a fire extinguisher? And on what? [smilie=2:

Yeah, so far these are the only things that have gone wrong with a major engine swap, and I haven't burned to the ground (yet) so I can suppose I can consider myself lucky. [smilie=::

Sigh. I refuse to answer on the grounds that I may incinerate myself.

It is an A body thing, I swear! You really are doing okay..just run around the car periodically and give it a once over with some crescent wrenches. :)

Do what I just did one the P wagon, replace all fuel lines. When they sit around they get dry rotted and will cause problems. The mounting bolts being loose will cause an oil leak but not fuel. Does your fuel pump have small machine screws holding the housing together? If those were loose I would reinsert them with some blue loctite.

I thought we put loctite on the screws when we installed the pump but we could very well have forgotten. I'll check again. Thanks.

See the blue Dart in the pictures across the top of the page? That car went from Ontario to the Netherlands. The fire extinguisher is still empty in that car from the Ontario owner :D

And XL is still a bit sensitive about it, I gather? :D

Now you no why he takes all those wonderful meds.

Well, we tightened everything up and hubby took it for a test drive (I couldn't cause I had me some cheap wine). Seems to be fine now, no leaks.

He also roasted about 1,000 miles off my brand new back times right in the driveway. I was like, what the heck is he DOING TO MY CAR?? :D

Funny thing was a PP Cruiser was driving by at the time and the guy had his neck so far turned looking at us, he almost hit our mailbox.

Thank goodness for tolerant neighbors. [smilie=e:

I guess it's broken in now! [smilie=b:
& we've all learned from XL how important a fire extinguisher is :)

Sensitive? Nah...only to smoke and heat and flame and ash and.....;)
I have a certain welding ability......I can light anything up. :)

My husband welded a new tail panel on our Dart and caught the trunk on fire. I guess snow IS good for something [smilie=e: dumped a bunch on it and all was good.

We have an extinguisher in the garage now. [smilie=e:
