I need a gas cap

68R/T

I got drunk and swallowed my teeth, now
No big rush on this, I won't need it until spring.
If you just "happen to know" that you have one stashed or where you might find one, I've got dibs on it.

Fitment is;
Barracuda.............65-66
Belvedere.............65
Coronet wagon......65
Dart....................63-66
Dart wagon..........62
Dodge wagon.......62-64
Dodge Lancer.......61-62
Plymouth wagon...62-64
Valiant................60-66

Chrome, painted, I don't care. I don't even care if the gasket is bad.

I found an NORS on ebay but I'll be damned if I'll pay $58;

I don't know the exact dimensions of the OEM, so that one may work to seal the tank. But I'm looking for something more resembling this;

If it was hidden I wouldn't care what it looked like, but this is a surface mount in the middle of the quarter panel.

Hmm. The more I dig into it, the less I'm finding. :doubt: Might have to make a run out to the bone yard tomorrow before work. Been meaning to check up out there anyways to see what they have.

I have a friend whose Dad has what's turning into a Mopar junkyard in his field. I have no way of getting in touch with him, but I do see him at CarQuest pretty frequently. His old man may have one he'd be willing to sell. He has a lot of early A-cars; one that I know for sure still has the original gas cap but he'd never sell that one... it's a '66 273-4V/4-speed Valiant Signet hardtop coupe with a factory 8¾, one of (I believe) 186 total Signets of any body style built with that powertrain in '66. Yeah, it's the one I was supposed to get back in '03 out of which I got screwed.

I'll have him ask his Dad. It might take a little while, though.

By the time my friend got it, it was a 360 with a 727. He put the close-ratio 4-speed back in it and popped a four-barrel on it (early 360 with J heads). It was a factory disc brake car, too, but back in '97 it was cheaper to convert to the big-bolt '73-'76 setup, which he did. That thing was a beast... it would still be, if it hadn't been sitting still the last 8 years. The guy who bought it from him put it in the field and has never touched it again.

It was white-on-white from the factory, and not only was it a clean GA car it had spent most of its life on the drag strip. The floorpans had rust holes only where the fenderwell headers had been hitting them. My friend had bought the front half of a '66 Barracuda to replace the inner fenders and the bad spots in the floorpans... we affectionately referred to the donor section as the "SemiCuda". :D

I sent a message to Mike's wife about this on Facebook. Hopefully, not too much will be lost in the translation between Jacqie (yes, that's how it's spelled), Mike, and Fred. Hopefully we can get you one.
