I need a car title

Has anyone had to get a replacement title? How about in NJ? I bought the Fury without a title, since I'm selling it now I would like to sell it with a title. The guy I bought it from said the previous owner lost the title somewhere, but he wasn't worried about it at the time because it was going to be a derby car. It has a clear number(VIN), no liens, what would be the easiest route if I can't get in touch with the previous owner? Thanks y'all

You will need to contact the last titled owner, and get something with the vehicle info on it, old reg/ins papers. then you will need a notarized letter from him authorizing you to get a new title in his name, you will need pics of the car and pencil etchings of the vin, then it's off to trenton to get the title. After that you need to get him to sign it over to you. then it's back to DMV to put title in your name. It took me about 6 months to get it done back in '94.

I don't think a title from any of those companies is honored in NJ. You could read here for more info:http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Vehicle/
