A Harmony remote for the TV,DVD,VCR,receiver in the family room.
(I hesitate to call it home theatre, because.. well because I don't think the screen is big enough nor the system loud enough.)

The Harmony Remote was designed by a Canadian company but they were recently bought up by Logitech.

This thing is the coolest. I've heard nothnig but good about the whole concept.

To program it, you hook it up the USB port of your computer and go to their website. On the site, there's a wizard that you pick all of your devices, by model number, and select the actions that you want to use. Then it all gets downloaded to your remote.

Done.

It has action buttons like:

"Watch a DVD"
"Watch TV"

When you press those, you can have all sorts of things happen:
of course all of the right components get powereed up and set to the right settings, but you can also send controls to your home automation system to dim the lights, etc...

If it can't put together a sequence of commands on it's own, you can program it in RAW mode by pointing the original remotes at it and hitting the buttons in the sequence required to do what you want. It remembers the sequence and stores it.

I'm going to be able to put away 6 remotes and just have one.

I got the 680 model.

Neat! But my home theater remote does that, so it is not needed by me! ;) [smilie=e:

My home theatre won't allow me in to watch a movie. And the mess that the speakers and amp leave after the party is just terrible. Plus the subwoofer isn't housebroken - ickk!

Well 6er, if you had this remote, you could control them! Sheesh, THINK man! [smilie=bunny.gif]

Yep, but how long did it take to program?

I expect mine will take about 10 minutes - including reading the instructions.

Actually, it took minutes also. a lot better than those old ones.... [smilie=e:

Yeah well...

ummmm..

mine came with free batteries..

hehehe okay enough "sabre" rattling. Which remote do you use?

LOL! It is the remote that came with my Onkyo Integra. It works quite well. I have a few "high end" aftermarket remotes, but they all end up in my filing cabinet. Yours looks pretty nice! Tell us how it works!

in the mall i work at there is a store that sells tv's
he has this tv that is portable...it can read the home thingy around the world...so u can hook to the internet, watch tv/dvd's and some other cool things its the size of a laptop, but very portable..there is no need to hook to anything except when u need to charge it ..oh and lithium batteries [smilie=e: i thought it was cool

that is very cool. I've seen some of those on the web.

Even in the house, you can watch TV wirelessly and access media on your PC.

SONY makes them (or rather SONY markets them).

Oh by the way, the new remote works great!
One button activities is fantastic.
Hit one buttin and everyhting that needs to happen to watch a DVD happens.
Same for Tv.
I set up another for listening to music on the cable digital box.
And more.

I have to set up my X10 controller for the lights but the remote is already set to use it.
