Homemade Kahluha

Oldman Gary's Special Coffee

This recipe makes 3 1/2 pints

ingredients:
3 1/4 cups sugar
3 1/4 cups water
2oz instant coffee
1 pint bourbon
1 vanilla bean

In a sauce pot mix water, sugar and coffee and heat until sugar dissolves.
Stir occasionally
Allow mixture to cool completly
Pour mixture in storage container (glass tea jug is best)
Add bourbon and vanilla bean and stir
Let sit covered in cool dark place for 30 days

Vanilla bean can be reused 3 times then placed in sugar for vanilla sugar.

To make a double batch use twice as much of everything except,
3oz instant coffee and still only 1 vanilla bean
Makes 7 pints

I like mine poured over chocolate icecream.:)

I made that with vodka once, not bad. it starts crystalizing at the cap after a couple days though.
 
understand "bring to a boil" don't boil it, just like ice cream mix. you just want to melt the sugar.
 
I have the same problem..its sugar crystals forming, makes getting the lid off a real treat.
 
These problems do not exist if you consume all of it at the single sitting. Make 7 pints, drink 7 pints - no crystalization issues - but for the ones in your skull.
 
WOW my mom used to make that when I was like 15 I never saw the recipe before. ( yes they had instant coffee then LOL ) Thanks
