and buckle down for some change.
The board software is getting a major overhaul.
Some functionality will change.
So, I plan to freeze any significant changes to the current set up to help limit the amount of work needed to get through the upgrade.
I'm getting beta code this week to start testing. I'll be setting up a parallel universe in which to test. Any volunteers willing to step through the portal gateway and poke around?
Ultimately, threads and posts are expected to remain. The layout will be different. I've uploaded some screen shots to give you a peek.
Photo albums should be untouched.
Styles will likely change as the theming method is completely different and I have to learn how to code in a completely new language. (I welcome the challenge though.) Initially, we'll run with the included styles and I'll get some freebies as they become available. Over time, I'll work on getting some more relative and interesting styles in place.
My biggest concerns are the following add-on modules:
vBPicGallery A.K.A. the Garage
vBClassifieds
Tech Pages (I might just turn these into a series of articles with one of the new features.)
vBImageHost
The Arcade
I don't know that there will be any problems with those, but those are the biggest add-ons we have
The portal will likely go away initially, but I've purchased the full publishing suite which gives an integrated Content Management System - or portal system that I'll eventually work in to place.
Worst case, we stick with what we've got today and venture forth without any technical support.
Best case, everything ports over and works initially, then I start to migrate things to take advantage of new features.
Reality, somewhere in the middle where we might lose a feature or two.
Exact timing? Not known, but as I mentioned, I expect to get beta code this week. You won't see any changes while I test as I'll duplicate the board first and then upgrade within the parallel universe. (Imagine if you will, a world with two moparnuts.com... [smilie=f
At most, the board will be off for a bit while I pull some backups.
*Slaps on :dcf: and dives in.*
