Hmmm, not sure where to put this so...

For the gun folks out there, I'm looking for a good, all around .308. I really like the FN FAL, and I hear a lot of good stuff about it. I'm not hunting with it, maybe, and I have my Glock and Benelli for home defense, it's mainly for target shooting and collecting.

M1 is out, nice gun but way outdated technology I also see they"Break just because" from a lot of people.

I really like my CZ858 but it's 7.62x39mm.

I would love to own an FN FAL but they aren't cheap out here.

The cost of .308 ammo out here would make you cry.

I'm currently firing old commie rounds from the soviet union circa 1976 through my CZ right now. $200 for a 1500 round crate of FMJ.

Nice gun, AK style. Want one of those too. They had one at Cabela's this summer with the fold up stock, I should've bought it but for the life of me I can't remember why I didn't... that won't happen again.

He said the M1 is out of the question as out is too out dated.

71,
If you compare the CZ to an AK the AK looks like a cheap piece of shit.

I was quite amazed at the quality of that little CZ.

What about an m1 garand? You can get those in .308.

My brother has one, I can shoot it anytime I want, same with an AR, I changed my mind on that, my dad, cousin and brother have one.

I looked at the SKS too, I found them locally for $140. Been looking pretty hard at the Hi-Point carbine, probably in .40 caliber, found them local for about $250. Before anyone knocks it I've read a lot of reviews, and talked to quite a few people that own and love them. Their pistols do leave a lot to be desired though.

:D Ask anyone who has been on the receiving end of one and survived, I doubt they'd agree. Well, you can get an ar in .308.

That can be said about ANY high power rifle. :D

Even the old Kar98 or Mosin-Nagant even though the M1 is semi auto.

I would advise against the SKS as the built quality is horrendous and they are notorious for slam firing which is very dangerous. Load a round and have it fire for you all on it's own.

I thought about buying one but the guy at the gun shop told me not too, cheap Chinese junk he said. Unless you can lay your hands on an original one ALL of the new ones now are Chinese.

I bought my CZ instead.

A good friend of mine had an original SKS. He was not impressed with it in the least and had it less than a year despite his initial excitement. He put a bunch of custom work into it and still claims it was the worst rifle he ever owned.

As far as bayonets, I fail to see the point (HA!). Any knife-fighter will tell you it's not about stabbing since puncture wounds don't bleed much. Slashing wounds are far more effective and will cause either death or collapse much more quickly due to bleeding--unless you get extraordinarily lucky and get a heart puncture.
