One thing I gotta have in my cars is a stereo. Trouble is, the demon is radio-delete & I don't want to cut the dash for a CD player. The only options to fit in the stock opening is a cassette player & well - cassette tapes just don't work for me. So...what to do?

My thoughts on this car are to give it a bit of a vintage (ie: my high school days) look, Aluminum slots or cragars for wheels, an old superior wood steering wheel and well this option for music....

Step one - the parts - an old "Automatic Radio" under-dash 8 track player and a somewhat newer Kenwood CD receiver.....

Step two was to take the 8 track apart & remove the guts.

Hard as it may be to believe - I actually threw the innards away...

Step three - test fit the CD player in the 8 track's case. The idea is to put the front face plate back on, concealing the CD player. the face will either flip down, or be removable to reveal the CD player inside.

Damn thing fit like they came from the same factory. [smilie=e:

Looks like a good Idea, and it only took 1/2 of that beer to get it done...

Wow! [smilie=2: What dedication to your work. You only drank a quarter of your beer. [smilie=f:

Next came testing the faceplate - it would not fit due to a couple plastic tabs that I think held the 8 track tape tight so it did not jiggle around. Out came Mr. dremel....

Step six and the last for tonite is to glue the knobs & controls on from behind and let the glue dry overnite.

....Time for another beer.

Thanks beeper - I'm kinda proud of the way this little project turned out. Tommorow I will mount it under the dash & wire it up. [smilie=e:

Got a nice tape deck from oor beloved beeper and I use a portable cd player with a car kit! I have more tapes than CD's! [smilie=e:

I'm fairly certain you're kidding :D

That looks good. Just looking at that player you got, I didn't think it was going to work. Now when are you installin' the wood wheel?

Well I suppose this means you dont want those 8 track polka tapes then. Man I remember when 8 tracks first came out. Slick job. [smilie=e:

Nice job! I was wondering how this project would turn out ever since you mentioned it in North Dakota. It's amazing how well that fits together.
