Hi From New York

My name is Brian, or Bri for short and I just wanted to stop in and quickly introduce myself. I am originally from North Carolina but am now stuck in the frigid depths of New York. I wish I could brag and boast about the Hemi car or Roadrunner I own, but I can't, at least not yet. However, I am testing the waters to see what's out there in the way of restorable Mopars as I am soon going to be in a financial position to actually purchase one. I do currently own a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 4wd standard cab shortbox pickup though, so maybe that will count for something.
I am a huge fan of Mopars both old and new though and am looking to pick up a Roadrunner, Charger, GTX or Challenger to either restore or, if the price is right, to pick up one that is already road worthy.
I do spend alot of time building models of old Mopars, both stock and drag racing versions as well. I have a site dedicated to that hobby that is filled with avid Mopar modelers who love replicating these cars in scale as much, if not more than I do. Here's the link: http://mopars.proboards.com
I look forward to making new friends here and learning more about the best cars ever produced in Detroit. Thanks for letting me join!

Welcome!

You'll find that we're all nuts about MOPARs, and if you hang around enough, you'll find that we're all just plain nuts.

We get along pretty well and that's what makes this place fun.

Check the place out... post some pics of whatever... Note that anything you post in your Albums can and will show up in the banner at the top - so behave. ;)

:D It feels weird typing that. We don't do much in the way of moderating here. Everyone takes care of each other. I pretty much take care of all the geek details.

Have fun!

P.S. Wanna see my Krylon spray can collection? It's extensive!

Welcome Bri! I CAN call you Bri, right? 'Kay, good...... ;) As DCF has said, yes, we are all MoparNUTS around here, mostly heavy on the NUTS, so be warned. Sounds like your truck is cool, LOVE shortboxes. What colour? (Yes, I'm Canadian....as are many of us here :toot:) Where in NY are you at?
So.....welcome aboard, and HAVE FUN! :giggedy:

Welcome to the Board...or the insane train as it sometimes becomes....remember you have a 60 day trial after that your soul belongs to us.....[smilie=d:

Happy Moparing....:2thumbs:

It looks like a fun place to hang out, so to speak. My Ram is black with stripes down the side but will be seeing a makeover in the near future. I'm located about an hour north of Albany in the Adirondacks. Looking forward to making many new friends and having fun along with the rest of y'all! Here's a pic of my Ram...

Always good to have more folks hanging around, Brian. You drive a Dodge, and that always counts for something!

I used to do a lot of model building in my younger years--even got pretty good at it--but it kind of fizzled in my mid-20s to concentrate the time and money on the real thing. I still miss it to some extent, but I have four 1:1 scale "kits" lying around at the moment. :D No, nothing sexy from the Golden Era but I like 'em anyhow.

If this year's Barrett-Jackson was any kind of bellwether, the market is soft big-time. Hell, the biggest seller was an airplane. It may be a buyer's market just in time for your purchase.

Here's my advice; this is what my friend Kevin did when the time came to actually plunk down money on a dream car. He figured out what body styles he liked, first and foremost. Then he determined options available across those body styles, and which ones he liked the most and had to have. He decided what options he liked but could live without. Though the list came down to a Top Five including A, B, and E-cars, he ultimately decided the car he'd seek would be a '71 Charger R/T, 440 Six Pack/console 4-speed Ramcharger hood car with front and rear spoilers and 15x7 Rallyes. Ideally, it would have been hideaway headlamps, Bazooka tips, and Sassy Grass Green/white gut, but he ended up with a Rallye Red 440/4v turndown-exhaust car with standard grille (but it is a white interior with the stick and console as well as the mandatory, original Dana 60 in it). The car is fully restored and has been featured in Mopar Muscle as well as being on/in multiple Year One catalogs (cover car twice). It's fast, fun, and pretty... and it's never been babied. Less than two hours after getting it back from the restoration shop, he forced me to drive it. Yes, forced. I didn't want to do it; the paint was barely dry. We got about six blocks from his house and I idled it out onto the four-lane highway in first gear, on the date-coded original G60-15 Polyglas GT tires he'd found for it. Once I was in my lane--pointing straight ahead but still going like 5MPH--I looked over at him and said, "May I?" When he responded, "By all means!" I pushed the clutch pedal, wound it out to 5,500RPM, and sidestepped the clutch. I beat that car like a rented red-headed step-goat until I'd gotten serious rubber into fourth gear at around the century mark. Kevin's reaction? Giggling like an idiot.

He also called in late to work one day. His excuse? He'd grenaded the original driveshaft powershifting third on an on-ramp. The driveshaft came apart so violently that it put several lacerations and holes in the floor. He fixed the holes, put a new propshaft in it, and kept right on beating it.

Keep in mind, this car is one of 336 built.

Why do I tell you all this? Because these cars were meant to be driven, damn it... not put on a trailer to go collect trophies or collect dust in a museum. Kevin's spent untold thousands of dollars on it, but if he can't beat on it and have some fun, what's the point?

I agree with ya on that one Jass....that's what the cars were built for so drive 'em hard and put them away wet....:p

You can always fix 'em later.;)

Welcome! Yes I did notice there was something going on with the front fender but it doesn't seem to be there in the 2nd shot. I used to be a modeler too. I use to combine kits. 2 of the neatest things I ever did was a 1/8 scale Monogram '65 Corvette that I made right-hand drive (about the same time Corvette Summer came out if anybody remembers that) which I still have, I should post pics of that. The other was a '70 Chevelle monster truck. I had a '70 Chevelle kit with a blown 454, and I had some rear axles and tires and cab lights and grab handles and stuff from an old AMT Kenworth kit laying around and made the suspension pieces from the parts trees from the Chevelle. It was sweet! Cat knocked it off the shelf it was gone. :doh:When I get a chance I'll post some pics of the Vette as soon as I blow all the dust off it.

Welcome, have a blast, and most importantly.....
DON'T PEE IN MY CORNER!!!!

Thanks for the welcome people, I really appreciate it. As for the pics of my Ram, the bottom picture was taken the day I bought it. The first pic was taken last summer. The truck needs even more work now after tangling with another Ram on New Year's night. I need a hood, hinges, bumper and fenders. The truck needed rust repair anyways, but now I can't drive it until I fix the collision damage. I love my truck though and will rebuild it, even if it means swapping the cab out to replace the rust on the rockers and cab corners. I have already replaced the box with one from a low mileage wreck from a local salvage yard. that box cost me almost $1000 alone, but it is mint.
Anyways, enough rambling. Again, thanks for letting me join and I look forward to making many new friends and having alot of fun here! :)

Hiya Brian.
I build models for a hobby too. Matt43 is right about mix and matching kits, you never know what your gonna get. I put a blown 454 in a Challenger and was snubbed by all the other E-body snobs. Also mixed a duster model kit with a bride of Frankenstein, and creature from the black lagoon. She's on the board here somewhere. [smilie=f:

Well MR. PIGPEN, you can just open up your own can of pudding tonight.
