Hemmings Muscle Machine, Jan, 2006

68R/T

I got drunk and swallowed my teeth, now
Anyone here that get the Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine may have read this article, if not, got to page 40 and read it NOW!!

Beeper, Barney and the Doc have seen this one in person, it's a true "one-of-none" factory prototype. It's owned by a local guy that is engaged to my niece.

What was "almost" the 71 AMX....

Here's a look at some of my handywork.....

I first met the owner, Mike, when I was finishing the resto on my R/T 'vert in 95. When he said he had a factory prototype AMX my thoughts were, "Yea, right, what kind of dufuss has she latched onto now?"

A few months later I got to see the car......in pieces.
He offered to store my R/T the following fall, so I said, "I'll make you a deal, you buy the parts and I'll do your motor"

It took another 5 years to finally finish it. (You think it's hard to find Mopar parts??) But since completion he has had it featured in 3 different mags so far

That's like having a 72 Superbird! Super cool! Imagin what it would be worth if AMCs were as popular as Mopars!

390? 401? They all look the same. I actually didnt want to sell that pacer but I was broke. Once you get past the fact that amc stuff is scrounged from everyone elses parts bins they ARE cool. Good job there.

Best magazine of the bunch IMO, I like the assortment of different stories every month. Very sharp car, How'd he get it?. I ask because I just skimmed over the pics.:shifty:

very cool amx...still love the scrounging that was done by amc LOL..hard to get over the camaro nose on that one tho

I'm way behind in my reading, maybe I need more fiber in my diet to enhance my reading time, but I'll look forward to reading this one. Oh, my stomach, I think I need to go catch up on some 'reading' now. :)

Pretty interesting car, The nose and backend have prototype pieces he grafted onto his own car from when he worked at AMC. Management wouldn't break off any more coins for the go ahead and he now has a one of none made.
