Help!!!!

Stretch

Hey! There’s no easy button for a body like this!
Has anyone ever had a no spark in run condition when the ballast restore is good? I have a new ecu wired correctly a new ballast resistor the checks good and a new voltage regulator. The engine will fire in the crank position and not in the run position. I do have 12 volts to the ballast with the key in run but no fire. Could this be a faulty ecu? It tested good on the test bench at the auto parts store.

My brother years ago had that problem with his 70 Duster, would fire up at start but would die at the run position. Bad ballast.

I think it should have 7 volts or there-abouts after the resistor with the key in run position.....
Did you try a different ballast resistor?

my cuda did the same thing. i wired a toggle switch to power the coil so when i let go of the ignition key it would keep running, not correct but it worked

I'm not sure yet. I have to disconnect the voltage regulator and the crank wire to get it to run. I ran a jumper wire to the starter solenoid and to the battery to get it to crank. It will run like that after you disconnect the jumper wire from the battery. When you reconnect the "crank" wire to the ballast it will not run unless you are cranking.

This is an 88 dodge 4x4 that I yanked an injected 318 oot of and slapped in a 68 340. I wired in an electronic ignition system (with the help of drjass) and a voltage regulator because that task was handled by the computer too. I have checked and double checked. It is wired like the diagram shows. Must be something stupid. I can’t wait to kick myself in the ass when I find the problem.

i WANT the fix for this problem...i rewired my ramcharger 6 or 7 times and the problem ALWAYS returned..course ive got what looks like an entirely new set of wireing harneses from all diferent trucks at this point but the problem was never actualy solved...hotwireing will get ya home ...sometimes [smilie=b: [smilie=b: [smilie=b:

Did you wire exactly as per that diagram?quote]

Yes. I have checked and double checked. As for the harness for the ignition and voltage regulator...... It is completely home grown.

try replacing the starter switch?...the one at the base of the steering column...or maybe use an older style starter relay mounted on the fenderwell to relay voltage to the coil
