So I've got this /6 here on the stand that I'm going to put in the kid's Duster. The guy I got it from said that he'd put rod bearings and rings in it. I can see the fresh hone in the bore, so I believe the rings. I pulled one rod cap, and sure enough, it's got a new bearing in it.
So I'm wondering, why not the main bearings, so start pulling main caps. I dropped one of the bolts down in the motor, and couldn't get to it with a pair of pliers, so I turned the motor over to get the bolt to fall out.
I'm turning it over standing behind the stand, when I hear a "tink". Sure didn't sound like a bolt falling out, so I look and it's a rod bearing shell. I guess it was up inside the motor somewhere, just waiting for its turn to jam up the works and lock everything up.
Now I guess I get to pull the whole motor about to the bare block and see if there's any other surprises in there ...
