And anyone looking to start playing...

This is a post from a guitar forum of which I am a member.
I've started taking two of the online classes as well and they're great.
The free content is pretty extensive and is quality stuff, to boot.

For a while I was doing two podcasts a week and the first one was about the basics about how to hold a pick and how we learn on the instrument and all kinds of stuff that is more "about" playing the guitar than actual lessons and I've always thought that they were some of the more important things that I've put out there. I've made a "collection" of these all in one place: http://markweinguitarlessons.com/fo...uot-collection-of-lessons&p=510937#post510937

I still post the Lick of the Week here but I thought that if anyone was looking for a "New Years Resolution kick in the backside" restart for their guitar playing that this might be a cool place to start.

I also have a "roadmap" for my older theory, blues and soloing lessons here if you're looking for a program to actually get your hands back on the instrument: http://markweinguitarlessons.com/fo...rking-order-for-my-video-lessons-on-this-site

You can still get the weekly podcast for free on iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/m...ry/id432020611

I've wanted to play for years, but the only guitar I've ever owned was a warped unplayable hunk of crap (though it was Hemi Orange). I messed around with guitar a little in college, but I was far-more advanced on drums by the time I was 14 than I ever even approached with a guitar.

In college, a friend taught me the "opening" of Metallica's "Fade to Black", which was right for the most part but he was missing several notes. I figured it out on my own. I learned some Rolling Stones stuff, too, but saying you can play a Stones riff is similar to saying you can play KISS or beat your dog at checkers. The only thing amazing about Keith Richards is that he's lived this long. :D

Sadly I haven't played in a long time. Just don't have the ambition and passion for playing that I used to.:( I still pick em up once in a great while though.
