Tugging my johnson while
My buddy is sellin an epiphone electric hollow body guitar for fifty bux and I'm thinkin bout gettin it. Yea I know I cant play it and my idiots guide to playing guitars has me clueless. But I figure I can grimmise musically with it. Can someone recomend a decent amp? I don't wanna dump alot of coin on it cuz i lose intrest in things alot and wifey will be pissed if I blow $1000 on something that sits in the corner collectin dust.
 
Epiphones are great brands as far as I'm concerned. Basically Gibson's less expensive counterpart. As far as amps, I got a 30 watt Crate at Guitar Center (oh how I miss that place!) for about $220.00 out the door. If you do decide you get tired of it..... :toot: (need I actually say it?!;))

Other amps I can recommend,
*Marshall is a very popular brand and they do sound awesome as well.

*Fender, while I dislike their guitars I do love their amps! Get one with Chorus if possible. In my opinion Fender has the best Chorus sound of any amp I have ever used!

*My Crate is decent but it's starting to act all funky lately.

Most decent practice amps can be had for around $200+ My little 30 watt gets pretty loud, a 50 watt would be nice but for a beginner or just to pick around, I wouldn't go any higher just yet.

Oh and Hollow Body guitars can also play just fine w/o an amp but to project the sound, yeah an amp will help. :p
Mostly used for Bluesy stuff, Jazz, Swing, 50's Rock and Roll.....great guitars. Very versatile.

they sound good if you know how to slide. and sounds great with out the amp cause you get that souhtern blu,s and laid down sound... :giggedy:
 
Thanks guys! Now I just need to get some "play like Eric Johnson in an hour" DVDs. I need another hobby that doesn't annoy wifey like my yodeling. LOL, I'm gonna take lessons for axe picking now

I've heard those Line-6 Spiders were good lil amps but never had the pleasure of trying one. Has all the effects built in you say?? :wtf: Hmmm may have to put that on my X-Mas list this year! ;)

Yeah Fish 7 of them and a tuner in the 120, it's so awsome I went out and bought the 120W. Played a show this past Saturday with it, the other guitarist has a Marshal 100W stack, I told him to turn up, he yelled I'm 3/4 up! I was 1/4 up.:toot:

I was playing an Epiphone hollow body while down in Vegas. If wifey wasn't with me, I'd have bought it too. Not that she could stop me, but I'd have to hear about it for years to come...

:hmmm: I guess she did stop me. Isn't that some kind of pschological torture? Do I have a human rights voilation claim now?

Someone ordered it and then got imaptient waiting for it and ordered online, then this one showed up first... the guy was offering agreat deal on it too. $250 under list and throwing in a hardshell case and shipping it for free.

and I played it through a Fender Blues Jr.

It played great. You could play on just the piezo pickup, just the humbuckers (and switch them like you'd expect), or both piezo and humbuckers together.
Some very cool tones could be found.
