gotta love these small town machine shops

nothing like getting boned just because we are a captive audience. i was initially told that it would be 25 dollars a surface to mill the heads on the deck side and he was not for sure about the intake side. well he says it will take almost all day to do one head and it will be 100 dollars for one head for the deck side. if it costs the same for the intake side im looking at 400 dollars just for milling! 12 dollars each for hard exhaust seats sounds about right to me but the milling seems excessive. what do you guys think? i told him with that amount of moneey i would be halfway to a set of ready to go edelbrock aluminum heads with new springs, retainers, keepers and valves. i dropped them off but they are going to call me when they get the tally for the work.

WAAAAAAYYYYYY excessive on the milling work.
Come to think of it, the seat work is on the high side, unless the seats are also included in the price.

Sounds like a Chevy shop that's trying NOT to get your work, which means I'd make tracks and find someone else.

Mark.

thank you, i pretty much thought it was excessive but im glad to get some confirmation. the funny thing is although the guy does all kinds of work and is a ford nut or chevy nut (i dont remember which and they are pretty much the same) he is known for doing really good mopar work too. i guess he thinks everyone is stupid or something. ill call around and take the heads to el paso if i have to to get them shaved there.

I think that is a good and informative post you show here. However, I could go in your machine shop to testify to my self how good your machine shop. So I can refer it to my friends who are looking some machine shop like yours.
