Got a new generator! Yay! I think.

I just walked into Home Depot and picked up a Baldor PC40H generator for 979 minus 10% off because it was a display model. Best part was the guy threw in a 30 amp extension cord, a quart of oil, and three StaBL (or whatever that brand is) bottles for free! He figured they probably came in the box, so I could have them.

Quick trip to the internet got me the Installation and Operation manual, and just as fast, a visit to Honda's website got me the engine manual as well.

List price on the Baldor site was like 1400 bucks, so I think I got a good deal, unless these things are like electonics and street prices are much lower than MSRP.

Anyone have ideas on how to quiet these things down? I have not started it yet...that's tomorrow's adventure, but I know it's probably loud. My next-door neighbor won't be happy...but at 4KW I can throw him a power cord for his fridge and that should shut him up.

Oh probably! :D

Sweet deal!

I've got one of those too!

Mines about 8KW and does 240v too.

I take it to the yard sometimes.

Not having a torch of a cordless sawzall sucks.

Dig a hole near where you are going to set up and cover with a piece of steel plate. Either drill or torch a hole large enough for an exhaust pipe extension and run the exhaust into the hole. All you hear now is the fan blades on the flywheel. I lived in generator world for a few yrs.:dgt:

ummmmm how deep did you say that hole had to be? I've got a crab in the backyard, you see, it's as big as a dinner plate and the hole it lives in is pretty deep....

Bigger the better I suppose, about a foot in diameter and as deep usually works fine. The crab wont live long thats for sure.[smilie=2:

Actually it like a horse shoe shaped tunnel that's about 5 feet deep. The water table is about three feet under the surface, so the bottom of the tunner is under water...the other side comes out in my neighbor's yard.

I saw they make mufflers (silencers) for them, so I'm probably going to order one of those too.

I was in home Depot the other day and noticed they have groovy whole-home built in units....damn, dems is sweet!
Be careful, Mannye. take care of my car, mmmmk? ;)

i laugh at cat 1 (what we are most likely to get) hurricanes. All they do is knock down branches and knock out the power. I used to care about the power, and most of the time, hurricanes save me money in gardener bills...lol.

Now a cat 2 and up...those are horses of a different color. The only dangerous part of a cat 1 is the risk of a tornado...other than that no problem.

i'm sure "your" car will be fine. Let's keep the worr and prayers out for our buddies on the west coast...they have a monster to contend with.
