Got a call from my bank.

Stretch

Hey! There’s no easy button for a body like this!
I got a call at work from my bank today. It seems that my debit card/ Checking account has been "Compramised" The called to let me know that my account number showed up on a list of "Hacked" accounts and they were cancelling my card and shutting down my account for safty. I was then told not to worry. They should have things back to normal in 2 to 3 weeks.

Ok thats nice. Now how do I survive for the next month with no cash, no bank account and a required direct deposit payroll.

At lest they cought it before I lost a shit ton of money!

Shit, that sucks Man. :(
Did thay give any details on the "compromise"? Their fault, by any chance?

Can they not set you up with a new card and go from there? Are they going to replace any missing funds? I would look into opening a new account and transfer everything over to it. Hope things work out for you.

They said it is a big list of #'s and it's a nation wide issue. Its on the corprate side of things not the bank side. I got few details last night because it was damn near 5 o clock when she got ahold of me. I'll find out more today. Chrissie is off and going to see what our options are. As for what the "compromise" is, Some got my debit card # through hacking corperation busness files on the retail side. Looks to be on a HUGE scale across the country. I'll know more sometime today.

Like I said , At least they found it before it got to deep. Chrissie was looking at our account info on line last night and we cant pinpoint any trasactions that we didn't make. Perhaps the worst of the whole deal is a inconvenience for the next few days. Kinda a blessing if you think about it!

I know that all of First National Bank of Iron Mountain's debit cards were cancelled on Friday. I had a customer on Saturday who was not impressed when his didn't work, but luckily he had the cash to cover the transaction. That being said, Visa and MasterCard recently settled a class-action lawsuit about overcharging retailers for $7.3 billion, which I was originally told was part of the problem. I don't know that to be true, nor do I know why that would matter. However, if I'm correct, FNB did not freeze accounts, they simply cancelled the cards. There is absolutely no reason you shouldn't be able to walk into your bank, give them your account number and I.D., and in the case of my credit union, the password, and be able to withdraw money from your account. That's just stupid, but then again, it was behavior like that which caused me to pull all my business from Wells Fargo. I don't trust national banks whatsoever, and to be honest I'm not that fond of local ones. However, I feel that dealing locally is always better.

Digital money... you've gotta love it.

Yep Jass thats it. I'm good. As I said I didn't have any details lastnight but It's cleared up now. Just my Debit card got canceled. Chrissies still works though.

I agree on the digital money deal. I've been saying for some time now that the GOV. wants to kill cash. They are pushing the convience of debit cards. Hell now you can scan them on your phone. Just the next step in killing cash and taxing every cent we make. Looks like the barter system is in our future! :D
