Got a call from the machine shop yesterday, the 440 honed out only needing 20 taken off, I have to get a couple cans of some hemi orange paint and drop off by Wednesday, hopefully back home by next week.

Oh boy-the fun part, building the RB wedge powerhouse. [smilie=e: What pistons-rods-cam????? [smilie=e:

It's only getting a 484 cam for now, otherwise stock rebuild for a couple years. I want Just a putter for now. I have some looming family problems coming down the pike (2 more mouths to feed and house) so car money will be harder to find. My driveway slopes down hill enough that I cant roll the car out of the garage without having to round up 2-3 neighbors to help get it back in. I'll try to take a few more pics and post em. Any of you that have swapped 68-70 B cars engines know if the hood does have to come off fore sure?.

Yes, unless you've got the front suspension down and are bringing it up from the bottom... and even then, it's dicey. With your nice paint job, I wouldn't risk it.

Get one of your pushin' neighbors to help you take the hood off... you'll save a ton of headaches... get an old blanket to put on the floor, and whatever you do, don't rest it on the rear corners. Set it on its side and lean it against the wall.

Thanks P, I squeezed a small block out of a 78 pickup a couple months ago without taking the hood off so I thought this may squeek by too.

yeah, take it off,if you have extra hands, leave the hinges on the hood side and remove the hinge from the inner fender, easier alignment when re-installing,less chances for scratches.you can mark the hinge with highliter or chalk re-align the hinge and wipe away the marks. and with the hinges out of the way it makes it way easier to reach in to hook up the moder in a B body.

Helping pops put the 440 in the wagoon we took the hood off, it makes a HUGE difference.

Heck, we even took the hood off when we dropped a different 2.5L in my old spirit. It's just hell without doing it.

To some people it may sound like more work, but I've always preferred to drop the engine in without the trans. (especially if you don't want to scratch up your new paint on the firewall)

But yours is only green, so, "what the he11":D

That was my plan all along, I've done a couple eng/trans drop in's and I like doing them seperately too.
For 74spaceduster.

What I do is remove the hood from the hinges and then grab an old V-belt and loop it through the front hook on the spring and pull. after the spring is removed just push the hinge down and its out of the way for installation purposes. [smilie=e:

Congrats on the getting close. Up from the bottom is the safest bet - but i'd snag the hood off to play it safe Gio. One "Oops" and its curse city.
