GM case could have implications for FCA

Tomorrow morning, General Motors will be back in bankruptcy court.
Specifically, Arthur Steinberg, an attorney with the King & Spaulding law firm, will be in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, presenting arguments to Judge Robert E. Gerber, the same judge who handled GM’s passage through bankruptcy in 2009.
This time, however, instead of seeking protection from creditors, GM is seeking protection from lawsuits that could cost the company billions.
At issue is whether GM is liable for defects in vehicles produced before the company exited bankruptcy, including those with the defective ignition switches that triggered a massive recall last year.
