Anybody else keeping an eye on this?

Seems to be aimed at smoking wrecks atm but I'm wondering how long till it's aimed at the hobby. I remember a huge outcry in California in the late 80's against this kind of legislation. I'm all for getting oil burning pieces of crap off the road but this kind of thing still makes me nervous. If enough eco-freaks make enough noise sights could be turned in our direction and I'll be damned if some politico or eco-fuck is going to outlaw my old ride. Slippery slope or just my own drug induced paranoia? :toot:

If they have already allocated 6 million in seed money to start it then it's going to happen:dgt:

I hope the car clubs up there get together fast to project a bigger vocal voice right away before the granola eaters take every thing.

I'm afraid it's a very slippery slope, and it won't be going away anytime soon.

Some pretty intense lobbying by the auto manufacturers has put some wind in the sails of the Enviro guys. John Baird is full of wind himself, but the lobbying helps.
I don't think it'll get to the point where anyone will be forced to give up their old rides, but expect some down-the-nose stares from the beautiful people.

What the goverment fails to grasp is that most older cars are driven by folks - much like me - that simply cannot afford or don't want newer rides.
the resources required to produce the new cars, I'm sure, are significantly greater than the resources used by the older ones, and then there is still the problem of what to do with the old machine once scrapped.

Sure, newer cars are much more fuel efficient, and better built, but I for one, don't want one.

Mr. Baird admitted it is a "huge challenge" to persuade Canadians to change their behaviour to help combat climate change. But he said the Conservative government is pursuing numerous options, including incentives for individuals who get rid of old and inefficient vehicles.

ya its a huge friggn challenge to move the sun too . when are these fucking asshole going to shut the fuck up and relize you cant do a damn thing about a natural occoring event
on december 21 2112 the sun will be the closest it has ever been to the earth . so what does that tell you .

its getting warmer dumbass !!!!
friggn tree huggers and enviroterrorists really piss me off

it all comes under we want to sell cars.. they should shut them down and start building new ones in say 4 years.. it,s all POLITICS and you me and an army of gold aint gonna do no good. cause it all run by the FEDS. and when the bildeburgers and kissinger and rockefeller want something they get it. the big 3 AREtold what to do. why cause Ford is involved with rockefeller.. you have to have a voice and the lobbists are the ones to do it. it,s like this up here to. IMHO----:helpme:

Built Better? Than what? A Bic lighter?

Me,I like Zippos! I go for quality and endurance and a life time warranty doesn't hurt either.
Unfortunately there is now life warranty for autos, but at least we know our old Mopars will outlast all this fancy new crap that passes for vehicles now.Sure they look nice and a few actually manage to get fairly decent fuel mileage but what sort of shape will they be in twenty or thirty years down the road.
To me, all these new crap cans are just Bic lighters in insanely priced, automotive form. Use em up and throw them away.

Now tell me,who is being more enviromentally friendly, folks like us,who keep our autos for twenty years and more? And recycle parts to help keep our old stuff on the road? Or the big auto manufacturers and their automotive versions of Bic lighters?
They are the greedy Buttheads that have to pound out twenty new models of junk every year and sell thousands of them every freakin' year so they can maintain their insane lifestyles,etc.... and to do this they go out of their way to ram their new crap down our throats and then they have to go the extra mile and try to make it more difficult for those of us that refuse to be suckered into buying their newer better junk. Its just a big, greed inspired, vicious circle! That they will never let us win! So I personally refuse to play.

If they want to play hard-ball with all the new junker legislation,etc.... lets see how long the big auto manufacturers will last if EVERYONE who likes/builds/owns an old car/truck boycotts buying Any New Vehicles for the next couple of years.I'm betting the tune would change quickly and Big Time!!
Us old car fans are an ever growing group and if we all stood together in a Total new vehicle boycott,I'm sure the big boys would have no choice but to back off and leave our old rides alone. Even a petition that stated ,either back off or feel the wrath of a few million old car fans might shake things up enough to shut them up ,at least until their herd of even greedier lawyers could cook up a new plan to corn hole us.

Now tell me,who is being more enviromentally friendly, folks like us,who keep our autos for twenty years and more? And recycle parts to help keep our old stuff on the road?----------Love that line MOPAR... then lets be like CUBA.where recycling of old cars is a great thing. i have friends who go toCUBA and take pic,s of cars never even thot of up here and they always get pics of 40,s and 50,s and 60,s cars in BEAUTIFUL shape. like a 53 chev. nothung wrong with it except for the fact that it wont fit into their luggage. i tell them every year take bigger luggage . no wont listen. then there is ford galaxie 500,s and some sre red. great shape.i have a friend in ARGENTINA who was home a year ago and says cars down there are great. but you cannot bring them here. your to broke to drive themthis farand they hink your going to defect. rite. i am just delivering a car. i,ll be back :bwuhaha::bwuhaha:. maybe we should do the same. just drive the older stuff and DONT buy new anymore. by then when the old stuff is gone then we can go back to driving new at reduced and since they are all thro aways what the hell no cleanup. :bwuhaha:ya rite. -- kthe lobbyists in the states are good for this. there are alot of bigshots in Washington that drive and are involved in the concourse and they wont let it go thru. they,ll have to fight Jay Leno and Letterman.:bwuhaha::bwuhaha::bwuhaha:anybody got any retro P.F. FLYERS. ???? i want to jump some walls....

All my cars are 28 years old and older!

They can go fuck themselves for all I care!

I totally agree with Marv, I have thought the same thing for as long as I knew what was going on.

It's just a big ploy to keep themselves and they're sinking ships afloat.

im with marv

newest thing ive got is an 89...mind you i couldnt pass on the deal and only got it 6 or so years ago

ill NEVER buy new..and generaly hate most things newwer than 75

It's happening as we speak - whether it has any effect or not remains to be seen.

Most incorporated Canadian car clubs (including the one one I belong to) are members of the National Association Of Antique Automobile Clubs Of Canada. This is an umbrella organization that addresses this kind of crap, as well as providing liability insurance, etc to clubs for their events at a discount.

There is more to this governments attacks on the car hobby as well.

The Harper Government is also targeting auto hobbiests as part of their new "crime bill" which targets modified cars supposedly to curb illegal street racing. I believe SEMA is attempting to deal with this.

Politicians suck. All they care about is lining their own pockets and the pockets of those around them. Left, Right - it doesn't matter - they are all crooked...

With the support and financial backing of the larger corporations, it becomes more than just being crooked - it becomes a control issue.
If big business and the goverment can dictate or control where we spend our bucks, or control what we do, their pockets become very well lined. They don't give a rat's ass about the general populace - except at election time - to them, we as the general population are just sheep being led to slaughter.
Nodda, I never thought about car clubs that way. I may put aside my distaste for the gossip mongers in the local street machine club and rejoin.

Unfortunately the other car I own is a 2000 and a Ford to boot. It'll be gone by spring since the warranty disappears in March. I've even turned the wife to the view of owning a car you can fix and maintain yourself.

Now if I can just cure her of this Ford Bronco business.....she wants another 78-79....

hell just set iron prices up another 20 bucks,

Let's get street racers off the street , but the suv driving, cell phone talking, mower down of childrens is a good consumer.
