Gas line & sender questions?

RUSTY Cuda

In over my head!
1st I've seen senders going from 49 to 120 bucks, how do I know if there the same ones? (quality wise?)
2nd original was 5/16ths I think, they offer both, since I'm buying new lines I could get either, should I stay stock, or go up to 3/8's,360 eng. I'm gonna run the return line while under there even if I don't use it. Rich.

I'd go with the larger, just in case there are future upgrades  As far as the quality I don't know...yet, I see them on the bag all the time like you said with prices all over the place

Unless it's a balls out 10 second race car the stock original size lines do the job just fine Rusty.

on a side note ...a good trick is to drill a small hole in the top of the sender runt a 1.5 inch long bolt thru it and locktight and nut it down...use this as your sender ground it will eliminate alot of ground issues with the tank due to fresh paint

He should be able to race it for at least 10 seconds, if not 12....:shifty:

Like the Beep said, I have no problems feeding the 440 in my waGOON with the stock 5/16ths line. You'll also note that the big $$'s are for the 3/8th's pickup.:dgt:

Only neeed 10 secs!
This car will never get a bigger eng(least not from me) so 5/16 it is, gonna get the sending unit & grommet, ths way at least the tank can go in, I'll wait for the lottery win to order the fuel lines! Rich.

It's not the one piece, it's hundreds of little pieces[smilie=2: , to keep progress going I have to spend on stuff that keeps me moving, blew out almost 600 last couple of weeks , & didn't get much for it, but the dash is almost ready , the gas tank is ready (well less the sender & gromet, another 100) & leaf springs & shocks are in. Just looking at weather stripping your at 1,000 bucks easy. I'm actually lookin at some of the old to see if I can clean it up, when your pushin 22K on a car that will be worth 12( if I'm lucky), you gotta scrimp when you can! Rich.

I only paid $110. for the 3/8 sending unit in my 63. Then I bought a roll of 3/8 aluminum line from Mancini and ran the 3/8 in the stock location. I plan to race my car some so I went with the 3/8. Now the Dart still uses the original 5/16 sending unit and fuel line. And she runs 11.50's @ 116 with no fuel strarving problems. But we do plan to change it to 3/8. Ron

now you tell me!!:D
last night I bid the BIN on the 59$ one, the 49$ ones were both 3/8, so I paid 10 bucks more for the 5/16ths, no biggie, this way if I get real cheap I can use the old fuel lines(I hope not but I'm gettin tired a throwing money at this car!)
See how my winter goes, hopefully I can put in a big order next spring for the fuel lines & mucho more psrts I need! :helpme: Rich.

I have a roll ( about 20/25 feet) of stainless line, I'll look to see what size it is tonite...

Rusty, save yourself some money and buy a roll of 5/16" line, a pliers-style tubing bender, and a double-flaring tool. God knows you're not afraid of work, and you'd be shocked at how much cheaper it is to do it yourself. It's not difficult to do, either, especially if you have the original lines there as a guide.

Those prebent lines seem to be reasonably priced until you take shipping into account... UPS oversize, which means automatic 30lb. weight rating as well as an oversize surcharge.

Obviously, this applies to brake lines as well, the only difference being you need 3/16" line.

Hmmmm......... I probably have the bending tools burried somewhere in the back of the garage, I have at least one flaring tool, but not sure about the "double" part, don was gonna look for some tubing he had & bring it over sat, we'll see what develops! Thanks for all the input guys! Rich.
I already bought the brake & trans lines, but I want to make a better than the rubber hose setup the guy had going to the trans cooler, that is probably where I'll dabble in my own line fabrication!

The tube I have looks to be 1/4 but I'll bring it along, anything else I need to bring ???

Doc's spot on about needing a double flaring tool for the lines. I got one on my last trip to PA and used it almost every day. I must have saved myself hundreds of dollars and many days worth of time (waiting for shipping) by making my own brake and tranny lines with that. I just bought longer lines than I needed, bent them to shape, cut them to length and then added the fitting and flare where neccissary.

From talking to Mark about it, don't bother with the cheap chinese generic double flare tool sets. Get at least a K&D brand (my K&D set cost around $50) or similar quality set. The cheap ones might make a few lines or they may brake the first time you use it like Mark's cheapie chinese set did. But they WILL break, usually right when you least want it to happen. After it broke, he couldn't find any replacement parts for it. The K&D set I got has the parts list and ordering info posted on the lid inside the kit. That way if you break or loose something it can be replaced without having to buy another entire kit.

PS: No leaks anywhere on any of the lines I made so that just shows that ANYONE can make their own lines. LOL!

Well at this point all I have left is the fuel lines, so I'll dig out my flaring sets & see what I have!
Don, can't think of anything at the moment see ya saturday!
Fri looks like rain, hope it clears outta here quick! Rich.
