Fuel tank resto.

This space for rent
Lets see if this works.[smilie=e:

Yesterday I removed the fuel tank from the 66 and began the task of cleaning and sealing it. Dumped out the rust invested fuel,removed the sending unit and stuck an air line in it,walked away for about 15 minutes then called it good.

Today the tank was nice and dry so I tossed in a 2ft section of heavy log chain and began to dance. :D

After much shaking around the chain was removed along with 1 1/2 cups of rust powder.Ick. [smilie=e:

The POR-15 fuel tank sealer kit is scheduled to arrive on Thursday. Hope to have it done for the 4th. [smilie=c:

Will keep ya'll posted on the process. [smilie=::

Documentation man!
[smilie=e:
let me know whatr you think of the por kit, gotta decide on clean up on the 73 or buy a new one? Rich.

POR-15 kit arrived this afternoon. First step is the Marine Wash,basically dump the solution in the tank and reposition tank every few hours.Rinse/repeat. This process will take at least one more day.
Next up is the etcher/primer. Then tank needs to be completely dry before the sealer goes on.
After that 5 days for complete curing of sealer is recommended.

Looks like no 4th of July cruise for the 66 this year. [smilie=s:

Ah well... [smilie=a:

Flushed it out today and got a bunch more rust out....quite a bit actually,my boss was amazed at how much was still coming loose.
Dumped in the second batch of the Marine wash and decided to let it sit overnight again. Will rinse it in the morning and begin with the next step.

Yet another day spent on this project. Took it to the car wash this AM for a final rinse before applying the metal prep solution. Let the stuff sit in there most of the day then flushed it out with hot water.Hooked the garden hose up to the kitchen faucet for that job. [smilie=w:
Tomorrow is final drying and install the sealer.
Getting closer. [smilie=::

It is done! [smilie=e: Installed the sealer this AM and now I need to wait for it to cure. Will re-install next weekend. I will try to take a pic once it has cured. [smilie=w:
Thinking I might undercoat the outside of the tank while it's out also...
