I might be getting a free truck!
I noticed a while back that one of my customers had an Electric-blue Dakota 2WD sitting in back of his shop. I looked a little more closely to discover it's a Dakota Sport, alloy wheels and all, with minor front-end damage. It's a 2.5L/5-speed truck and an easy fix.
I kept walking past it and wondering, and yesterday I finally remembered to ask him about it. He said it was his shop truck and ran great, but when the front end got wrinkled he retired it, eventually giving it to a friend of his. The friend brought it back when the cops hassled him about it being in the yard (something I know nothing about, right?
) and it's been there for nearly a year. He said he wasn't sure the friend still wanted it, but he would ask and if not, it's mine. It needs a hood, fender, grille, and headlamp; there is no frame damage.
One would think I'd have no use for such a vehicle, but it seems to me when I need something not-too-enormous to haul, and need to do it over a distance, it would be more economical to have a fuel-efficient truck for which I'd have to pop money to fuel. Plus, in the short term, I have a friend in dire need of a daily driver, and that would be about perfect once I installed a Sure Grip (winter's coming).
I'm not sure of the year, but owing to the fact that it runs well, I'm thinking it's got to be '92-'94, since the Jeep-derived 2.5L is generally a screaming pile.
If nothing else, I could at least toss the engine and trans into the Conquest and make it roadworthy if not fast.
Man, I hope his friend doesn't want it.
