Some people should admit that they are too damn old, senile and weak to do anything more than check the oil.

The KYB shocks looked puny as hell when I took them out of box. WRONG!!

Got the first one compressed, (about pissed myself doing it) wired it up, and was banging my knuckles trying to fit it up into the engineering marvel of the tube shaped shock mount of the C body. Damn wire broke and I pushed up instead of pulling it back down. Now it's fully extended up to the top of the tube, the side is jammed into the side of the tube, and the bottom is hung up on the A-arm.

Mmm yeah. Those front C-body shocks are a royal pain. Didn't those shocks come boxed with a retaining strap? I usually install 'em with the strap left on then cut 'em off afterwards.

Yes, but this strap was fastened over the top of the shaft, it had to come off to install the bottom rubber bushing, it only had the shock at about half compression anyway and that ain't enough. :(

little bottle jack under it then "slide" it over? did the shaft come through the hole up top yet?

No, the top of the shaft is at the side of the tube at the top, We will have to push a rod into the hole up top, and compress the shock from above, I say "WE" because it's going to take some one alot bigger and stronger than me.

How different is this car from my '77 Newport?

Those shocks took me about half an hour.

I don't know about anything that new, but the mount on the 65 is in the shape of a tube just barely bigger around than the shock, and about half the length of the shock. The bottom of the tube is open, but the top only has a small hole for the shaft. Ideally, you compress the shock, shove it up into the tube, and then bring it back down straight to fasten the lower mount, then you cut the wire and allow it to expand up into the top mount.

But if your wire breaks, you start a thread like this.:)

Have you considered LARGE zip-ties, the ones that are re-usable with the little clip thingy in the lock end. You can compress the shock a little at a time till it's at the height you want, instal it, and then just remove the wire tie ( provided you put the lock end in an accessible place)

Damn, that's some bullshit there. Isn't it amazing how something can just create a retarded place to put itself so that it "fits" in the least convenient place possible?

find the guy who built it at the factory and punch him out..... he,s prolly retired by now so it wouldn,t take much to shock him.. then find his partner cause he was on the other side and repeat the process. or write a letter of indignation to the company.... prolly won,t do much for ya- just tryin to help keep your blood pressure up... ever wonder the new words you can come up with after stuff like this. things you would never had known the meaning of before the happy times begun? and nameing tools that don,t answer to what you call them? and that piece of skin you lose on the knuckles is always called ah f-ck? any other time it,s called damn..----ORVIL

My wife and her brother just finished up the job and the car is ready for a dog ride. How did he get that shock out? I aint even gonna ask.

When your wife calls you at the office and mentions, oh, my brother is working on your car, are you happy or nervous? I'm :helpme::helpme::helpme:ing.

LOL 65 I did something similar to what you did..cut the retaining strap on the shock and let the shock extend. You talk about finding out what you're made of..oh buddy, damn shock kicked my arse..finally I used the floor jack to compress it enough so I wouldn't bust a vein in my forehead. The other 3 was left tied up till I got the top half-ass secure then 1-2-3 cut the strap and guided/wrestled it into place.
