Edelbrock Carbs, Your Opinion?

Hiding In The Bushes While
Need a no nonsence "drop on and go" carb for the Furd, the factory side float Holley is shot and I don't want another one from what I've read.

A reman is $350 here and the Eddy is $280 for a 600CFM manual choke.

Meh?

Go for it says me. I've had good luck with the Eddys and they are easy to tune should the need arise.

I have had good luck with em. I am sure you can tune a holley better, but you can't tuna fish.

ive given holley many chances, and they wind up on the shelf with the rest of the junk.......i bought 2 eddys in 1989 and put em on my amx, never had a problem. i took em apart a few times just to give em a cleaning, they run as good or better today as the day i bought em. they are basically leak proof (unless the float sticks, mine never have) jets and rods are easily changed on the car without spilling a drop of gas

since 91 ive been running nothing but carter/eddy carbs and wont run anything else....hell pickup a used one off EBAY for 25-50$ blast it out with carb clean and it will be like it was brand new......the only way they ever die if if they get left to sit with water in em

Good to know!

I know they are basicly Carter carbs which I love so this is perfect!

Ordered one today! :giggedy:

ive been told that the rods and jets are not the same.....but both eddys ive taken apart have been 100% the same as my 80s carters

I like em. Wifeys car and the dak both have them. Real easy to tune. I tossed my holley in the trash at bolted on an eddy 600 for my last hooptie truck.

I use them for everything but an all-out race motor where you need more than 800 cfm....after that, nothing can dump gas like a Holley.

I wouldn't put an Edelbrock carb in a wheelbarrow...There always lean...(for your basic stock to moderate perf engine go a 100 cfm larger that you figure you'll need)
I even bought one of those 800 thunder carbs to try on the dyno because someone had posted that it was as good as a Custom Holley from Chuck Nuytten or Bolaws...
it was 20 hp down from a box stock holley(down leg booster) 850 and 45 hp down from our dyno carb...and the BSFC numbers were the ugliest I've ever seen...
in 30 some odd years why is it that I've never seen a car with that style carb light the tires up from a roll ???? because it's not a perf carb..!!IMHO
I believe for an everyday car no problem(but it will be lean)... a Holley carb will outperform that Edelbrock carb same cfm to same cfm every time...and I CAN set up an Edelbrock carb...the effort is not worth the gain...the holley will always make more TQ and HP and give better drivability...the one thing a holley can't do is.... retail at the same price as an Edelbrock...if your looking for a cheap carb...there's no beating an Edelbrock in that respect.;)

Rob, Good point! I was really talking about a Carter AVS that I modify into an 830 cfm carb by pulling out the choke and air-valve, then milling down the air horn. For MAX power a double-pumper is it! I think the Eddy would be OK for his use...

Put a 700 on it and you wont have to worry about changing jets or rods...a 600 will be too small ...just my take on it.

how big is the engine ???

I believe he ordered a #1405 or #1406 600CFM Performer carb.

No big deal if I have to order a different one.
