EBAY information gathering?

I placed a bid on an item, the ad was written using Indeo. As soon as I got the email from ebay "congratulating" for a successful bid. there was a second email stating that the seller had pulled my personal contact info. Now I thought that was supposed to be used in the first lines of a dispute, not just when one bids on something.

Are these third party software companies gathering info on a mass scale?? Any policy wording to this effect?

I guess so he can call me everytime he puts up a John Deere rider that had an engine fire. Gave it a whirl at 75 bucks.
