E-Body Grilles

Can the grille assembly from a 70-71 Challenger fit a 72-74 or do the fenders have to be changed also?.

Should be a straight-up swap, as far as I recall. The only thing I of which I'm aware that makes the '72-'74 fenders different is the marker-lamp area.

Another guy said the fenders taper down a little more towards the front but from pictures i'm looking at I dont see it.

Nope, just trying to help a custom car shop that does mostly fords. They dont have anyone on staff with any mopar knowledge and they might be doing a 73 Challenger for a customer that doesn't like the sad mouth factory look.
The guy wants either a 70-71 look or they might go some kind of custom billett mug.

I've heard them called that before. :D But when you have the lower grille it doesn't look so sad anymore to me. hmmmm

I think GoMo might be able to answer this with some certainty, he is doing the '70 nose on a '73/'74, but he is also using glass fenders...

I'm wondering if the headlight buckets and grille mounting points on the core support might be a little different.

I'm pretty sure I had to do a little "massaging" on the core support of my 72 demon to mount the '71 grille...

I wish I could help, but I left the 72 grill assy in PA as I didn't plan on using any of it.

I wonder what a sad mouth would look like with a split bumper like the 70ish camaros. The open mouth looked pretty good in certain color combos. In a follow the crowd kinda way.

You'd have to fab something to connect the top to the bottom, though, as the grille mouldings stop at the base of the grille, and the lower moulding stops at the top of the valance.

Thats exactley what the shop is debating Doc, go some kind of billet mock of the original or go horizontal and bring the lower valance back up to the bumper.

The plan is to try to make the grille opening as small as original to 70-71 or make the billet replacement look original:doh:

Clear as mud guys?.
