big block over the nose on an A is a bad thing unless going in a straight line...besides look at the performance #s the small block S and CUDA cars were outrunning there bigblock brothers...the "stock" exhaust manifolds just didnt work for the bigblock a's..and there wasnt any room for a "factory" fix

I believe it was due to the fact they were introducing the new e-body platform which gave you the big blocks and the pistol grip. .
