DUI Strikes again!

Was on the way home from work tonight when I saw all the pretty red and blue light taking up one whole side of the road from a distance. As I drove by I saw a black Corvette sitting sideways in the middle of the road with it's ass end just shredded right off! It had to be a '70 or older because it was a steel body. I have seen the car around town quite a bit and it's actually a really nice car. Well I ended up turning into one of the side roads and parked about a block down from the accident. As I walked back to the scene of the crash I see the old Field Sobriety Test being performed on a guy who is by the way failing miserably!! He was in a Buick Regal or something like it, driving with a suspended liscense, no insurance and in someone elses car:doh:The guy in the Vette was taken to the hospital as I would later learn from fellow rubber neckers. Hope the dude is ok but his precious Vette is fucked!!! From the looks of what was left of the ass end it definately twisted the frame....so yeah it's totalled:doubt:

That blows!!!! I really hate to see that stuff happen to anyone, it's always the sober one that gets hurt and the drunk bastage gets to stumble away....

Corvettes were never steel. They have been fiberglass since 1953.

Yeah but good news (Im guessing) was the other looky loo's said he was just taken to the hospital for observation. Unfortunately they also said he needed some help getting himself upright and out of his car, which I guess would be a common thing judging from the way his Vette looked. I'll check the Police and Fire section in tomorrow's paper and see if it has anything to say on the incident. :helpme:Really hope the dude's ok!

Considering I'll be meeting you for the first time I'm gonna leave this debate at a stand still....I don't wanna get beaten up this weekend[smilie=f::D

Stretch is correct. The Corvette has had a fiberglass body since it's introduction in 1953. It was never steel..never ever.

:hmmm: hmm well Joe's 70 felt like steel to me...sounded like it too. Well I have been known to be wrong.... lol wonder how I coulda fudged on that though:huh:

The steel body corvette never made it into production. Read on ...
The prototype had a fiberglass body, but a steel body was to be used in production. However, a pilot series was made with fiberglass bodies, and on the basis of their trouble-free operation it was decided to drop the steel body. The least typically sports-car feature of the first Corvette was the automatic transmission, a modified Powerglide. It was not until 1955 that the three-speed close-ratio stick shift became available. This was followed by the excellent four-speed all-synchromesh unit two years later.
The whole story...

Ok I was wrong. Every Chebby guy I know always refers to the 70 as the last steel bodied vette though and like I said Joes looked and felt like steel to me so I believed it to be so....

They may be referring to the end of the chrome bumper cars. Corvettes had chrome bumpers from’53 up to the early ‘70’s when they went to a rubber bumper in the front and chrome in the back around ’71 or ’72 and just rubber on the front and rear after that. I can’t remember the exact year of the change over but it was in the early ‘70s.

1972 had an "end of an era" status to it, as it was the last year for several items:
