Dodge dealers' Dart allocations depend on how many Caliber models they sold

We've heard a former car dealer friend of ours describe selling unloved vehicles like the Dodge Caliber as "a thankless task," but apparently she wasn't altogether correct. Chrysler has begun taking dealer orders for its much-anticipated 2013 Dart, and allocations of the sedan will depend in part on how many units of the hapless Caliber the franchise managed to shift before the model was axed. That's according to dealer sources, Automobile News reports - Chrysler officials won't let on how they decide to disburse the Dart to Dodge dealers.

Automotive News also says that while Chrysler previously said the first Dart models will be in showrooms by the end of this month, it turns out those will just be dealer demo models (though those units can be sold). Non-demo cars aren't expected to show up until the end of July or early August. If you've been waiting on taking delivery of a new Dart of your very own, you probably have a bit longer to wait, so you might as well head over to Dodge's website to check out the Dart configurator, which now has final pricing.Dodge dealers' Dart allocations depend on how many Caliber models they sold originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 12 Jun 2012 14:15:00 EST. The Caliber was just a bad idea. They'd been selling the hell out of Neons, and went to... well, whatever you call that bag of smashed assholes. Now you're going to tell the dealer how many of its replacement you can have simply based on a car that seemed riveted to the showroom floor, sales-wise? I realize I live in a small area, but I've only seen a couple of Calibers since they debuted.

Executives of American car companies wonder how they got into trouble in the first place. Basing sales of the Dart on sales of the Caliber is like saying, "You can't have any Challengers because last year you didn't sell any Sprinters." OK, the Caliber and the Dart are the same market, but giving someone something they can't sell and punishing them when they don't just isn't fair.

My mom got a Caliber as a loaner after her accident. She absolutely hated the piece of crap! I rode in it a few times and I was baffled as to how that possibly replaced the Neon! At least the Neon was comfortable!

The Caliber is a piece of shit but they make me money. I have had a few in the shop and they always leave after a bunch of parts and labor!Guess thats what makes it an economy car! They're great for the economy!:D

While I'm not entirely crazy about the new Dart, I do believe it will sell. The "tuner" crowd is gonna be all over them, women will buy them because "It's cute!" and depending on what the after market offers up..... who knows?!

honestly i see the dart as a good replacement for the neon..on both the cute factor and tuner crowd..the same way the neon was..the caliber uhh...that was a chevy with dodge badges made by benz

They are making a big deal about Travis Pastrana wheelin' one in rally racing so they are most definitely aming at the "tuner" crowd!

They've been on the market for a few months out here and, I have only seen one. Sitting on a sales lot. Alone. At least it's a visual improvement over the Caliber. I don't think these will sell too well. Despite its chassis (Alfa C4) being an animal.

I saw two on the road here yesterday.

One was US plates, but I couldn't make out which. White with green along the top. Wisconsin, maybe?
The car was a silver colour and the centre section of the tail light across the trunk was out.

The other was red and the guy was driving the hell out of it, but in a very stupid manner. Zipping up the right lane only to stand on the brakes, wait, change lanes a hundred times, zip along again. I think I passed him 20 times and I never varied my speed by more than a few kms per hour. Dickhead.

It's funny though, I really didn't notice either of them until I had been driving. Along with them for a while.
They don't jump out at you amongst all of the jelly bean cars on the road.
