Dilema?

I've been playing the guitar for about 5 years now and haven't really done much but rock the F out by myself. the problem that i have is a few friends of mine are in a really good band and they need a bass player. Now.. I was really good on the guitar until i had my daughter and haven't had time to play, ever. it's been 6 months since I've picked it up and am obviously out of practice. But I know how to play the bass and can play it well.

should i take a kick in the balls, lose two strings, and be in a band that rules?

i think that i should, but it's hard to give up on a 6 string and pick up a 4 string!

:fishy:

I started playing guitar in 1967, had 2 years of private instructions. In 1972, I was in a band with 2 other guitar players, I switched to bass. Been playing bass ever since, still have my first guitar and I still play (and write music on) guitar. Go for it!

Go for it! I know I would play with others, if they would let me. *goes back to workin the skin flute* :(

don't forget to think about the fact that this will take up ALL of your extra time. If you aren't practicing at home, you are at practice. Gigs involve getting there extra early for setup, then play for 4, sometimes 5 hours, then tear down which means you get to the bar around 6 to 7 for setup sound check, and by they time you tear down and drive home it's 3 or 4 a.m... NOT saying don't do it, but keep it in perspective. It isn't all fun and games. That advice comes from almost 20 years in bands. ;)

If you want to play, play........... if you want to be a rock-star hold out for a lead gig.

disclaimer: I took a guitar on trade and owned it nearly a month.

I'd say take it up with the mrs. wouldn't be fun if you're not around having to take care of a baby. Us new moms like to think we're super heroes, but it can be overwhelming at times.
Not burst your bubble, but it's something to think about.

well.. my hands are big enough for a 5 or 6 string bass.. but the problem i have is they're just more expensive.

a 4 string will do everything i need it to. perhaps a 5 or 6 later on down the line.
