DCF's Charger

The paint fumes have cleared so I'm
The delivery truck just dropped of his new CBD quarter panels.
NICE STUFF!

My pants got shorter when I saw them. :shifty:

They look every bit as good as any OEM panel I've ever seen, and the gauge seems to be fairly heavy, around 20, I'd guess.

Take a peek.
First impressions - I'd recommend Classic Body Designs whole heartedly. :bravo:

Stand back when you're drooling over those. :D

Man, they are nice. Thanks for the pics, too!

I think I'll move this to the Projects section and we can keep adding to it...

Ohhh snazzy! I shoulda stole all the stuff outta the damn car before it left. DAMNIT. :( Never know what mighta been in there! :D

well the real question is ......Did they fit? I have seen some that look great until you get them close to the car and then,,AARRGGG they end up being twisted to short too long holes wrong......exspecialy if they have a made in something other than USA sticker on them.... let us know how the fit is!!!

By all accounts that I've heard, they'll fit very well.

Of course, every car is different. The ass end of mine was torn apart by a hack before resto got his hands on it. So, who knows what'll be needed to massage them in to place.

and they are made in the U.S.A. - there's even a certificate saying so. :D

I've test fitted the left quarter and the only places where some "tweaking" will be required are at the door post and the wheel house.
I should also mention that the post looks like it was damaged by some long-ago collision and then f*kked up by the last guy's attempt at repair, and the outer wheel house is an aftermarket, non-CBD part.
Neither areas look like they are gonna be much of a challenge - fingers crossed.
I should have pics by the end of the weekend.

Forecast: Sunny with variable cloudiness - no rain.:giggedy:

Very nice!! :2thumbs:

Much nicer then the cheapy repro quarters that I had to use 15 years ago on my 68 coronet...:doubt:

Only managed two pics before the batteries went south.

Some slight distortion around the side marker and some "persuading" at the rear kick-up by the decklid, but really a nice panel.
The lines are very crisp and line up with the door perfectly.
:bravo:

not bad considering the majority of the rear sheetmetal of this car was replaced by someone else.

Let me tell ya tho' - full, factory style quarters on a 69 Charger are NOT easy to do. Like most Mopars I've ever worked on, there is a lot of effort involved in any panel replacement.

Chevys are easier. :)

It is a FEROCIOUS amount of work..!!

3X the work to hang one over the std short quarter...$2500 a side easy.
When I was a kid I saw lots of full quarters get cut because nobody wanted to go to the roof and trunk..too much work

Yep, standard R & I time use to be around 14 -16 hrs for a generic car - I betcha even a tremendously talented and experienced bodyman like me would be hard pressed to get one done in under 30 hrs. :)

Flat rate fellas would run away from a car like this. [smilie=f:

Come to think of it, when I was working on XL's Charger, there were the telltale signs of a right rear quarter replacement - and it was a full quarter as near as I could tell. Musta been a dedicated bodyshop to do that to a then-late model car.

Will you be wanting new valence corner caps?

I worry about how badly they got screwed up by our "friend."

No need. I only sliced the ends where he "modified" them - I can easily fab new ends so they'll fit the way they're supposed to, with a minimum of filler.

You should have seen the cabbaged-up mess he had on the rear window/Dutchman panel.

Side 2

On to the passenger side -
Lots o' rust under the old quarter/decklid lip.
This quarter took a fair amount of effort - due in no small part to the aftermarket outer wheelhouse being slightly askew. Can't fault the previous guy for THAT, as he likely fit it to the aftermarket quarter skin, and we all know how well they sometimes fit.
Still some "massaging" to be done there.
I'm impresssed with the quality of these CBD panels. The lines are all good and crisp (a little work to even out the center body line to the door, but nothing a couple coats of polyester primer and some block sanding can't fix), nice heavy gauge steel, etc...

Full quarters on a Charger are NOT for the faint of heart!
